David Hernandez really hasn't been that bad. He's allowed 13 hits in 17 1/3 innings. He's walked six batters and he's allowed two home runs.
Sure, he hasn't been as nice in he ninth as Jeanmar Gomez. That's why Gomez has locked down the closer's role.
But someone is going to have to step up when it comes time to give Gomez and Hector Neris a night off.
He's the best candidate to do it.
It would also be nice for the dynamic duo to have a night or two off because the Phillies take a big lead into the later innings.

What to know about the Marlins
It's been more than a week since the Phillies played a team that was over .500. That was the Marlins last Sunday, when the Phillies won their second game of the three-game set. The Phillies lost the first game, when Vincent Velazquez coughed up four runs in the first two innings. Tom Koehler outpitched Jeremy Hellickson in the second game, which the Phils eventually won. The Phils won the third game after Aaron Nola departed.
Like the Phillies, the Marlins have a negative run differential. But it's just one run. Unlike the Phillies it's the offense - second in batting and fifth in on-base percentage - that has carried them to a winning record.
The pitching staff is ninth in ERA and holds a 1.404 WHIP.
Jerad Eickhoff needs to turn his season around. He has a 6.65 ERA in his last four starts. That's not cutting it. But he has not been terrible. He carries a 1.230 WHIP into tonight's game, thanks to just 1.8 walks per nine. He's also struck out 8 batters per nine innings. But he's given up a .308 BAPIP, compared to last year's .257. His home run to flyball ratio is up to 8.9. from 6.7 last year. If Eickhoff can improve on any of those two numbers, he should be able to turn his season around. As we said in the player preview, we expect a lot from him if this team is to compete.
What we can't wait to see
Vinvent Velazquez versus Giancarlo Stanton. Power vs Power. So far, Vinny has Stanton at 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout.
