What we know about the Marlins
The Phils took two-out of three from the Braves when they met in Atlanta. The Phils have started their 9-game home stand with a 4-2 record. At the same time, the Braves have won two of six, which is an improvement after having gone 8-26 up to that point.
They've fired Freddi Gonzalez. The lineup has hit 15 home runs and the pitchers have given up 42.
It's been ugly and there's no reason for the Phillies to lose two games in this series. They should be gunning for a sweep, with a 2-1 series win being just somewhat satisfying. I rarely expect sweeps in series because a pitcher can have a bad day. But the Braves are bad and the Phillies are good.
Key matchup
Adam Morgan has to bounce back from his last start, in which he gave up seven runs on eight hits in less than four innings. He's gotta keep the ball in the yard and not walk anyone. His stuff has gotten better of late, but he doesn't seem to be harnessing it.
What we can't wait to see
Jerad Eickhoff needs back-to-back strong starts. He was effective in his last outing. If he can improve, he's going to be better off. But he's getting hit hard by lefties and his fastball has been very hittable. Eickhoff has to keep the ball in the yard and figure out what to do against lefties, because he's owned righties. I'm confident he can pull it off. But he and Morgan have a stable of horses nipping at their heels right now.

Buchanan = Good

Thompson = Good, Very Good in last 3 starts
Asher = Dominate
Eflin = Ridiculously Dominate (Best in AAA)
When are they gonna just give up on Ryan Howard.. it's embarassing.
Howard can't do anything right aside from hit the occasional homerun off of a mistake pitch. His defense continues to worsen and his nase running is more like base walking.
Crap game tonight too. No offense and shitty defense. Braves are terrible, need to do better.
this whole game was a malady.. what I don't like at all is Franco getting into a mode where he's getting on himself for making mistakes.. He's a good player and will be.. but there is no good veteran out there to pick him up..

I think the thing that ticks me off the most is where other organizations promote young bats we continue to keep them down in the minors till they are 23-24.. and settle for crap. This has been going on in this organization for a long time, whatever management. Is it coming from ownership then? Other organizations bring up guys at younger ages all the time. Yet the Phillies let them sit and sit and sit and lose out on the learning experience.
I feel the gradual regression is starting to occur
It's all on the offense. The pitching staff is good enough that it will regularly keep you in the game, but this offense is just dreadful.
