Hey, hey it's Opening Day!
The Phillies travel to Cincinnati, the birthplace of Major League Baseball, to face the Cincinnati Reds to start the season.
Let's take a look at what to expect
Monday, April 4: 4:10
Wednesday, April 6: 7:10
Thursday, April 7: 12:35
Jeremy Hellickson vs Raisel Iglesias
Aaron Nola vs. Brandon Finnegan
Charlie Morton vs TBD
What to know about the Reds
The lineup features some regulars we're all familiar with. Joey Votto hits the ball hard, takes his walks and is a perennial MVP candidate. Brandon Phillips is criminally underrated. Did you realize Phillips is going to retire with more than 2,000 career hits, 200 home runs and 200 stolen bases as a second baseman. The only other second basemen to do that are Hall of Famers Craig Biggio, Roberto Alomar, Ryne Sandberg. Jay Bruce has a ton of pop. Billy Hamilton has a bit of speed.
On the mound, the squad has some bright young arms.
It's sacrilege not to put Opening Day on here, but Aaron Nola versus Brandon Finnegan on Wednesday should be a gem. Two young arms who pitch very differently. Finnegan's fastball sizzles more than a sirloin. Nola twirls strikes like a machine. Their first games of the season, expect them to be pumped up, and the offenses to get mowed down.
What we can't wait to see.
Opening Day. The pageantry. The fun. Baseball's Back.
Big issue for the Phillies
Can the bullpen start to sort itself out? The Phillies can surprise with their bats and their rotation. The bullpen, however, figures to be a Dumpster fire. If the Dumpster was filled with toddlers, puppies and Jennifer Lawrence.
