Phillies 2016 Bullpen Competition

Last week the Phillies plucked yet another pitcher off the waiver wire. This time it was lefty Bobby LaFramboise. He took the 40-man roster spot of injured former 1st round pick Jesse Biddle. With the addition of LaFramboise the bullpen competition has become even stiffer (that's what she said).  There are currently already 7 worthy candidates to take the 7 spots. Then there's a group of veterans on minor league contracts that have been effective in the past. And there's the group of minor league depth guys that are on the 40-man roster.  It's going to be interesting to see who opens the season in the bullpen.

We all know that a bullpen isn't only 7 pitchers for an entire season. Everyone of these guys could conceivably pitch for the Phillies this season.

18 legit pitchers for 7 spots. its crazy just trying to figure out who may actually play. Then we could add in those who are starters that may end up changing over to bullpen if they feel that is right to do.

Phillies sign LHP Edgar Ibarra to minor league deal, add him to the mix.

Yoervis Medina sent to Phillies for Jesse Biddle. So he enters bullpen conversation too.

I'm going to Spring Training, so I'll file daily reports from there. I won't be there the entire time, but will be there From Feb. 27 to March 3ish.
I'm really interested in seeing the pen arms in person. I think, despite not having a proven closer, the pen could be an asset.
