2016 Rotation?
SP1 - Cole Hamels
SP2 - Aaron Nola
SP3 - Zack Eflin
SP4 - Adam Morgan
SP5 - David Buchanan
*Jesse Biddle and Ben Lively waiting in the wings

Don't trade Hamels.

Nola is going to need strong defense behind him because batters make some hard contact off him. Still, nice start to his MLB career.

Totally agree. Now take Hamels out of that lineup and pencil Nola in #1, and you're not so impressed... Hamels is only 31 now. Lets presume he has 3-4 more productive years. He should use them in Philly. I have no doubt this team will be contending again in 3-4 years, if not 1-2 years. The farm system is looking too darn good right now.

With the right moves, the Phillies could have an outside shot for wild card contention next year. That would be with Hamels, Nola, a free agent starter (could be an ace such as Greinke), and 2 of the better minor league starters. If Hamels is traded which is very risky hopefully they can bring in a top starting prospect. That would mean they are looking towards 2017 more than next year. In 2017 we could be seeing 2 pitchers with huge potential in Kilome (#3 prospect) and Pinto. Kilome has huge potential.

Edwin Jackson released by Cubs. Sign him to minimum and plug him into rotation ASAP.

Cueto brought back a 1st and 2nd round drafted player and a top starter in AAA. If Hamels is traded the return should be much higher.

The prospects being floated in a potential Hamels deal are not all that exciting. The Rangers have some nice guys, but Phils would only probably get 2 of them, which is not nearly enough. I really hope the don't screw this up, but I think they will.

Its amazing how very few players on the Phillies in the past decade who have been real impact players were acquired by trade. The only that come to mind are Moyer, Halladay, Blanton, Cliff Lee, Lidge, Pence, M Young... mostly pitchers. Everyone else was drafted or signed as a free agent or Rule 5. There is very little history of success in trades for this team and all the successful ones have been us getting the established superstar in exchange for a bunch of prospects, not the other way around. The times we did trade a big name away (Pence, Lee) have always been complete busts. I'm not at all interested in trading Hamels. Makes little sense and is way high risk. But, they don't ask me for my opinion...
