Another day, another game, another loss is what Phillies baseball has become. Same shit, different toilet.
*This team is so bad, it really doesn't matter if they play worse. Trading any, or all of, Ben Revere, Jonathan Papelbon, Aaron Harang, Carlos Ruiz, and Ryan Howard makes sense. Papelbon is an elite closer, but rarely gets save opportunities. Harang is a decent rotation piece, but he may bring something back of value. Ruiz is nothing anymore, might as well let Cameron Rupp and Gabriel Lino split time behind the plate. Revere is a nice player, but isn't part of the future with this club, so flipping him for a prospect would be wise. Howard's contract is an albatross and I'm in favor of moving Kelly Dugan to first base and seeing if he can stay healthy and hit MLB pitching.
*Jeanmar Gomez has been a nice scrapheap pickup. He's controllable through 2017 and is pitching well- 28 G, 32 IP, 1.97 ERA, and a 1.28 WHIP.
*Chad Billingsley is on the mend and will hopefully be able to rejoin the rotation soon. The Phils are in desperate need of starting pitchers.
*I'd try to trade Jeff Francoeur right now for a low level minor leaguer, just to free up a roster space and playing time. That way Cody Asche, Ben Revere, Odubel Herrera, and Domonic Brown would get the majority of at bats. When Revere is traded, Brian Bogusevic is tearing it up with the IronPigs (.318/.822) and deserves a shot.
*I'm not in favor of rushing prospects before they're ready, but I'm hoping by season's end that Aaron Nola and JP Crawford are getting their feet wet in Philly, with the plan of having them start the 2016 with the Phillies.
