Phillies Got Better End of Revere Trade

On December 6th of 2012, the Philadelphia Phillies sent a package of pitchers Vance Worley and Trever May to the Minnesota Twins for center fielder Ben Revere.  Let's check up on each player, shall we...

Revere with the Phils: 239 G, .306/.688, 108 R, 22 DBL, 10 TRPL, 2 HR, 45 RBI, 71 SB, 1.1 WAR (brought down by poor defense, his oWAR is 3.9).

Worley in 2013 with Twinkies: 1-5, 10 GS, 48.2 IP, 7.21/1.99, -1.2 WAR. Purchased by the Pirates last season.

May in 2014 with Twinkies: 3-6, 10 G, 9 GS, 45.2 IP, 7.88/1.77, -1.2 WAR. Chance at 5th spot in the rotation this season with the Twins.

Combined: 4-11, 20 G, 19 GS, 94.1 IP, 7.54/1.89, -2.4 WAR.

Surprise, surprise, Amaro actually did well here.

Hold up a minute, you seem to be ignoring Worley's really good 2014 season (8-4, 2.85 ERA in 18 GS, 1.21 WHIP, 1.6 WAR. I'm not saying your conclusion is wrong, but Worley isn't all crap. He's still got upside and it looks like the AL was a bad fit for him.

Andrew, I'm not forgetting his 2014. He was with the Pirates, so that doesn't count towards the trade value the Twins received. See what I'm getting at?

Worley is a decent pitcher. Had one bad season in his career.

Ahh, so Philies vs. Twins, and the Phillies win. However, as far as the trade of one player for another, the same conclusions can't necessarily be made. Worley for Revere might end up being a wash with the only difference being the positions they play.

Our old buddy Phillip 'I occupy a roster spot' Aumont, had another Aumont like appearance. 1 inning 2 strike outs and 2 home runs. ERA now at 18.00 for spring. Oh that doesn't include the game against University of Tampa, 3 hits and 1 run.

Reading between the lines, Todd Zolecki continues to prepare fans for a roster spot for Phillippe Aumont. He's terrible. Don't see the upside, just because he can throw mid-90's. Big whoop.

So, the Phillies just play the Yankees this Spring?

Sure seems that way.
