I'm a Fan of David Buchanan

Entering Spring Training, David Buchanan was unjustly vying for the 5th spot in the rotation.  As a rookie, he pitched fairly well, posting a 3.75 ERA/1.29 WHIP over 117.2 IP in 20 games started.  Outside of Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee, the projected rotation was blah, so giving the young and still developing Buchanan the ball every 5th day on a rebuilding club seemed like a no-brainer.  However, he was being pushed into a competition with multi-million dollar bust Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez and non-roster invitee Kevin Slowey.  Unfortunately, Lee is likely out for the season, but fortunately Buchanan is there to help fill the void. And, he's proving he belonged all along.

Buchanan Spring Stats:
5 G, 2-0, 16 IP, 11 K, 0 BB, 1.69 ERA, and a 0.75 WHIP.  Boo-yah!

I'm not predicting a Cy Young-esque performance outta him, but 185+ IP and a similar 3.75 ERA to last season is well within reason.  I'm a fan, or better yet, PHAN.  Ha, see what I did there?

Cord Phelps should be kept over the likes of Cesar Hernandez, and Brian Bogusevic over Grady Sizemore. Hernandez could be claimed by any team, but any player not making Phillies roster is not likely to be claimed by another ML team.

I also see Odubel Herrera becoming a starting OF while Revere and Brown will have to battle for at bats with Ruf and the other outfielders.

Howard and Asche have played well enough to be starters at 1B and 3B.

Then I foresee Aumont gone or designated for assignment.

Buchanan will likely be the number 3 pitcher or 2 if Harang is injured. Williams and everyone else battling for 4th and 5th spots.

The Grady Sizemore contract was only $2M, but I don't really understand why Amaro retained him. Be better off going with young players that are still developing like Kelly Dugan or Aaron Atherr.
