Bye-Bye Burnett

Thank goodness the Phillies won't be paying $12.75M to the MLB leader in losses (18), walks (96), and earned runs allowed (109) in 2015. Yep, AJ Burnett declined his player option and walked away from guaranteed money to pursue free agency.

Amaro lured AJ out of possible retirement last offseason in hopes of bolstering a playoff rotation.  Nothing went as planned.  Burnett pitched nearly the entire year with a sports hernia and his results were far from what the Phils had hoped for.  It's a good thing they're parting ways.

AJ Burnett 2014: 8-18, 34 GS, 213.2 IP, 190 K, 4.59 ERA, and 1.41 WHIP for a $15M pricetag.

If Burnett chooses to pitch in 2015, I suspect he'll bounce back. Not elite, but better than last year.

Glad that money is now freed up. Too bad we're trusting Amaro with it.

For 12 million he could grab 2 starters

I'd like the see Phils gamble on someone like Brett Anderson or Josh Johnson in hopes they can stay healthy and perform.

One good thing if the Phils do add a pitcher (or as I believe 2) such as a Johnson or Masterson, if they are doing well they could be flipped for prospects at trade deadline. - See Roberto Hernandez

The team may just have several Grady Sizemore or Josh Johnson types who will likely be around to see if they can be used to improve thru trade at a later date.

Wandy Rodriguez might be worth a minor league flier.

One current player I say should be kept is Ruiz, he 8s not just a good catcher but he greatly helps the team and the pitchers the most. I do think his knowledge and wisdom greatly helped Jerome Williams and the young relievers. He has more value than many just on that basis. It's not any downplay on the value of Utley or Rollins whom I would not mind seeing around for another year.

The trade rumors sound more like "we are likely trade Hamels for the future " "we are going to keep Hamels for the future " "we will trade Utley, Byrd, insert name, for prospects or we may keep them"

If they Phils are going to stink anyway, I'd rather watch them stink with Utley and Rollins.

It would be neat for Utley and Rollins be life long Phillies
