Possible Pick-Ups & Other Stuff

The Phillies have a host of players on their 40-man roster that have next to no upside, nor deserve a protected roster spot.  That list includes Luis Garcia, Phillippe Aumont, Hector Neris, BJ Rosenberg, and Andres Blanco. They're are practically useless. Releasing them is no big deal.  Due to some September call-ups around baseball, there have been some interesting guys become available.

Possible Pick-Ups:
*J.B. Shuck/OF - Angels, can hit and field. Could be great 4th outfielder (.304/.774 minors, .272/.660 MLB).
*Michael Kohn/RP - Angels, 3.67 ERA in 4 seasons, with a strikeout per inning.  Not really set-up material, but someone that can be called upon to help keep the score close.
*Troy Patton/RP - Padres, 3.25 ERA over 6 seasons, and a lefty.
*Caleb Gindl/OF - Brewers, possible 4th outfielder (.285/.809 minors, .232/.739 MLB).

Other Stuff:
Mario Hollands was a pleasant surprise for the 1st half of the season, posting a 3.16 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.  The 2nd half has been quite the opposite, as his ERA and more than doubled to 6.89 and his WHIP has gotten worse too (1.66).  He exited today's game with shoulder soreness.

Grady Sizemore might make a fine 4th outfielder for the 2015 Phillies, as he's hit well since joining the team (.304/.840 in 45 G with 19 R and 12 RBI).

Ben Revere is doing his best to earn the NL Batting Title, with 3 more hits today he upped his average to .314, which puts him just ahead of Josh Harrison of the Pirates.

Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez's MLB debut has to make Amaro feel good...or not.  1 inning pitched, 2 earned runs allowed on 3 hits and 2 walks.  Just one outing, but a pitiful outing nonetheless.

Players exposed to waivers usually are of little value, but the Angels have a great team and Shuck and Kohl are possible steals, more so Shuck.
If the NL batting title ends up at 314 for a winner that just shows how bad hitting is in the game now. And how in the world did the Phillies have no batting title winners since Ashburn?
And if I was GM I would start rebuilding the outfield starting with Ruf and Sizemore as a possible platoon in left and sell high on Byrd and Revere. Brown just sell!

I'd like to see Sizemore back on a 1 YR/$2M deal with incentives. Ruf. Trading away Byrd and Revere is okay with me as long as they get value back. What the hell to do with Dom Brown though?

Disappointed I don't see optimism about this Giles kid on here. This guy has been VERY VERY good.

I say they've got to choose to trade either Dom Brown or Ben Revere. Sizemore is a good 4th outfielder, but we need Darin Ruf to play more.

Will Giles have enough innings to get ROY consideration?? I mean, if he does, he's a serious contender...

I have praised Giles, and others too. He's been fantastic.

I'd like to see Dom traded, move Revere to left, nab a center fielder, trde Byrd, let Ruf handle RF with Sizemore as 4th outfielder.

This whole thing is gonna get blown up. Rube will be gone. Sandberg will be on a leash. Which I'm not even sure is right.. but here's the deal.. If you are choose to move the franchise forward that's great.. noone should be traded though. this whole process has to start from within. The team made bucketloads of expendable money during the run where they filled the stands every day. The players are old. Wanna talk trade though. Utley out. Before his window closes. Byrd. Yer right good season. Is he on a two-year? Papelbon is a team killing guy. He should be released. Eat his salary. He only cares about Papelbon. I'm going to point to an organization that has done outstanding things in the last few years. We faced them in the World Series a few years back. The Royals have built themselves into something from the ground up, and it's about time we look into that too.

Papelbon, a huge douche, yet still a great closer. His stats are still some of the best.

Of course, $13M is too much, but releasing him would just be moronic.

Having Papelbon despite the salary does make the bullpen better.

Shuck was traded to Indians for cash, Ruben should have offered something
