As a Phillies Phan, I Pheel the Need to Complain

Who Would You Rather Have?
Bobby Abreu - 29 G, .320/.897, 0.4 WAR
Tony Gwynn Jr. - 45 G, .171/.481, -0.7 WAR
*Both were property of the Phillies in Spring Training

Hurting for Viable Arms:
Jeff Manship pitched 4 impressive innings (6 K, 0 H, 0 BB) in extra frames yesterday, but fell victim to a strained quad and had to be removed in the top of the 14th.  Then that bastard Bastardo blew it.  I've had enough of Bastardo's inconsistency (20 BB in 25.1 IP), but sadly Sandberg doesn't really have much to work with in the bullpen.  Since the Phillies have played in back-to-back 14 inning games, I would think Manship might visit the DL, while a fresh arm is summoned from the Iron Pigs.

On a more positive note, rookie lefty Mario Hollands is doing well (22 G, 20 IP, 17 K, 3.15 ERA, 1.10 WHIP).

***********WARNING- BEATING DEAD HORSE***********
Ryan Howard's MLB Rank Among Qualified First Basemen:
*25 qualified
*.230 AVG (21st)
*.304 OBP (22nd)
*.425 SLG (16th)
*.729 OPS (18th)
*26 R (12th)
*7 DBL (20th tied)
*10 HR (7th tied)
*37 RBI (6th tied)
*67 K (1st)
*18 XBH (16th)
*-0.2 WAR (22nd tied)
*-0.7 DWAR (24th)
All of this for the bargain basement salary of a measly $25M per year.  Bravo Amaro, bravo!

How is Frandsen doing compared to utility IF on the team?

Maybe the more i complain about Howard, the better he'll play.

"Thanks for Ben Revere, that's one of about two things that's gone right for us the past three seasons."
"Yeah, somehow we traded a center fielder who can't hit, can't field,a and can't walk, and you won. We're real happy with you."
"You want Ryan Howard too? Have him for free."
"NO."

Please release Phillippe Aumont! He's all kinda suck.

With all of the extra innings they will need to pay Howard overtime!

Actually its good to see Howard getting that swing back, keep an eye on him - he could end up with 40 homers this year.

They are 6 games under 500, not out of it by that standard. But only 4 teams worse than that, so not really in the playoff hunt. With the Draft soon I can see trades a possibility more than in past years. Maybe no more than just one any day now but July could be busy.

Another month or two of seeing if some of these guys have anything useful for future years or if better to trade away.

I don't quite think they have to Astros it when it comes to rebuilding. There is enough talent in the low minors to wait on that. I think trading Lee, Paplebon, Adams, Kendrick, and as many outfielders as possible is in order. Hopefully both Asche and Franco turn out to be the real deal and you can trade one, but I don't think we'll know that by the end of this year so keep both for now. The WFC's except Kendrick can stay for now, to pursue records and because none will get an amazing return.

It'll be weird to see KK pitch in another uniform and a little sad too.
