Let's Get It On- Angels Series Preview

Los Angeles Angels (19-18) @ Philadelphia Phillies (17-19)

Pitching Match-Ups:
Tuesday, 7:05 - Matt Shoemaker vs. Cliff Lee
Wednesday, 1:05 - Garrett Richards vs. Sports Hernia Burnett

Halos Bats:
R - 189 (5th)
AVG - .256 (10th)
OPS - .760 (2nd)

Rookie CJ Cron/1B has made a helluva first impression (8 G, .393/1.128). Howie Kendrick/2B (.311/.835), Albert Pujols/1B (.268/.868), and Mike Trout/CF (.272/.883) carry the offensive load. Meanwhile, Raul Ibanez/OF has struggled (.139/.515 while still qualifying for the batting title) to the point where his release might be coming soon.

Halos Arms:
ERA - 3.88 (18th)
WHIP - 1.27 (10th)

Richards (2.80/1.11) has finally started to fulfill some of his potential, but Shoemaker is making his first start of the season.  The Angels bullpen is a mess too, but not quite as bad as the Phils.

Prediction:
The Phils have the upper hand in the pitching match-ups and the Angels will also be batting without their DH.  Therefore, I'm feeling a 2 game sweep, with the Phils returning to .500!

Thoughts:
The Phillies bullpen and bench are some of the worst in MLB.  Wouldn't it be nice to still have Kevin Frandsen (.267/.700 in 30 G)?  The combination of Mayberry, Nix, Galvis, and Gwynn has hit an unbelievably craptastic .134/.403 with 15 R, 2 DBL, 2 HR, and 9 RBI in 187 plate apperances.  Reid Brignac has replaced Galvis and Cesar Hernandez was just recalled to take the roster spot of Nix.  Some of the minor league free agent signings below would have helped!

The following players were signed to Minor League Contracts:
*Scott Atchinson/CLE - 13 G, 15 IP, 1.88/0.67
*Erik Bedard/TBR - 5 GS, 26.2 IP, 3.38/1.43
*Emilio Bonifacio/CHC/UTL - .312/.739, 22 R, 11 SB
*Kyle Farnsworth/NYM - 19 G, 17 IP, 3.18/1.41
*Sam Fuld/MIN/OF - 20 G, .232/.674, 4 SB
*JC Gutierrez/SFG - 16 G, 18.1 IP, 3.93/0.98
*Aaron Harang/ATL - 8 GS, 48.1 IP, 2.98/1.18
*Reed Johnson/MIA/OF - 27 G, .341/.898
*Jason Kubel/MIN/OF - 32 G, .267/.703
*Daisuke Matsuzaka/NYM - 10 G, 13.2 IP, 2.63/1.39
*Pat Neshek/STL - 19 G, 16.2 IP, 1.08/0.60
*Mark Reynolds/MIL/1B/3B - 28 G, .235/.807, 8 HR

You know what's messed up? The old geezers in their mid 30's are hitting great while the young players are shit. In a weird way, RAJ's strategy of trying to get one last year out of the WFCs is working! They just have no support.

Asche has shown DH skills (walks a lot, has some power, shit batting average)- I think it's best to trade him and his bad defense and see what Franco's got if this team is contending come July. I'm starting to think Brown and Revere need to be taken to the glue factory, they're old enough where I don't see them getting much better which Asche, Franco, Hernandez, and Galvis still could.

100 pitches in only 4 innings. Way to go Burnett.
