Over/Under- Marlon Byrd

Spring Training games are just around the corner, and the 2014 season is quickly approaching. To celebrate, WSBGMs is previewing most of the players expected to be on the Phillies 25-man roster, either as individuals (ex- starting position players) or as groups (ex- bullpen and bench).  Today the we focus on deja vu rejuvenated right fielder, Marlon Byrd.

Pros: Coming off a career year, solid defense, right-handed pop, returning to the team that drafted him back in 1995 and has something to prove.

Cons: Old, coming off a career year (yep, both a positive and a negative), PED suspension in 2012.

WSBGMs 2014 Projections for Marlon Byrd:
139 G, .273/.764, 65 R, 28 DBL, 15 HR, 74 RBI.

Over by a bit generally. Byrd is just kind of there for me, I can't get exited about him but I don't really dislike his presence either. Better than D. Young at the very least.

Byrd is a very good right fielder defensively and will do okay with the bat. I doubt he bops 20+ homeruns again, but hey, he might.

Byrd is a big improvement, and despite his critics he is a very good fielder even in CF. He still has good speed and can provided that right handed compliment to CF when he is not in RF. This would allow Ruf time too. (Hoping for the team to replace Mayberry and give someone else a chance as 5th OF).

Can we release Phillippe Aumont now?
