WSBGMs Collection of Phillies

We Should Be GMs was established March 28, 2006 and GM-Carson & Corey have been blogging for 8 seasons now. In that time we've witnessed the Phillies ascend the NL East and triumph over all of baseball and stake claim to being a perennial contender in the National League until plummeting the past two seasons. Many players and coaches have come and gone with some even staying for the duration. This post is intended as a means of reflection on all those men who've donned the Phillies uniform during our time in the blogsphere. Enjoy...

Tyler Cloyd claimed off waivers by the Indians. Yet, Michael Martinez remains a Phillie.

Raul Valdes claimed by the Astros. Yeah well.

Well, I guess now we need Kendrick for some pitching "depth". So much for my plans.

My life as a Philadelphia sports fan has never felt so empty. You know things are bad when you soccer team is the only half decent one.

Cloyd was as good as gone and Valdes was likely to be one of those depth guys in AAA for injury. But with Jimenez, he can provide that.

No real loss here at all.

Martinez if he was claimed would be addition by subtraction.

Thanks GM-Carson and GM-Corey.

MM is gone with Robles, Orr, and Minor.

This leaves 34 on the 40 man roster, 6 on the 60 day DL (all but Lannan seem to be in future plans, and Chooch and Halladay as Free Agents. 42-Lannan

I forsee gone or likely to be cut in favor of other players:
Bernadina
Wells
Mayberry (50/50)
Frandsen (for an upgrade only)
Valle (brought back on minor league deal)
Savery (see Valle)
Lannan
Halladay
Garcia/Jimenez/Ramirez (Only if they need more roster room)

Does anyone know how much they have available to spend?, what the luxury tax is?, and would they go over that?

It may dictate how much they add.

Their top pick is protected, so signing a Garza, or Santana and Choo at the cost of a 2nd round pick maybe attractive.

Then trade for Kemp or Braun or another OF whose team may want to part ways with. (just throwing names out there)

There is alot they should do to improve the team like add 2 bats, a top starter, a reliever. And make sure the bench is much stronger than the MiniMarts of the world.

So, basically you're saying the Phillies are effed in the a, because Amaro is the GM and there are too many holes to fill, and he's a dumbass.

Crazy rumor. Sign Cano and move Utley to 3rd.

Bob D said...

Some may call it crazy, but if WSBGMs ran just one off season - I bet there would be a big turn around. Why not start the season with 4 or 5 starting OF'ers with Ruf also available for 1B? Bring in another Ace or near Ace starter and add 2 more starters to the mix as well. Sign a top set up guy even though Adams will be ready or near ready for opening day. If owners don't worry about the salary cap and willing to pay that extra tax to bring in a team that can be competitive - then do so.
