Protected pick. Really?

I love Roy Halladay, but his time with Phillies should be ending at the conclusion of this season.

Roy should retire. He had a great hall of fame career, made lots of money, and has nothing to prove. Its clear his body wants him to hang it up. Go have fun with your family and we'll all be cheering you on as you enter Cooperstown in 2019.

I still think the Phils bring him back for next Spring unless he hangs it up. He can at the very least do is compete with Pettibone, Gonzalez and company. The very best he can do is regain form of the previous years and win 20 games.

I'm thinking he can come back and be very effective still. I doesn't mean that the Phils have to guarantee him a spot - just let spring training speak for itself.

Andy Martino of the New York Daily News asked Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. if the team's $170MM payroll, the presence of Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez and numerous veterans under contract would prevent him from making big moves this winter, and Amaro replied with a simple, "Nope." Martino replied by asking if that meant Amaro was going to be his "usual creative self" and explore "crazy possibilities," and received another one-word answer in response: "Yep."

You should reprint your Cory - Andy Martino - Golden Oldie Posts.

"Nope" "Yup"

Ruben knows Andy *pansy*

Who would you rather have in the 5th Starting Slot - with Pettibone and Morgan in the Wings?

Roy Halladay or Kyle Kendrick - both at about the same price.

I believe in ROY, and that we should let Kyle walk. Roy took a discount, wants a chance, we should give it to him. Period. End of Story.

Guarantee millions to a man who looks completely done? Why? We owe him nothing. He's been paid accordingly.

SirAlden if you ran a club they would be the worst in sports. Continue guys tons of money when they're well past their primes. WTF?!

How's that Howard extension working out for ya?

Exactly.

Well, Roy should be signed by the Phils. But this doesn't mean he is given a spot. If Morgan or Biddle or someone else outpitches him - then they make the team. But if Roy returns to form then they have a really good rotation.

They should look for an upgrade over Kendrick.

If the team finishes in bottom 10 in MLB then their 1st pick is protected and they can sign a top free agent without losing that pick. If they don't, look trade.
