Amaro Attempts for Worst Offense Ever

Michael Martinez is back.  I just threw up a little in my mouth.  Why?  Hell, I don't know.  Really, I have no f'n idea.  Just when I thought Amaro couldn't do anything dumber, he turns around and does something like this and totally...shows he's dumber than I originally thought.  Mini-Mart's career OPS is .509, which ranks 4th worst (426th out of 429) in MLB since 2011 (his debut, minimum 350 plate appearances).  The three players below him (Chone Figgins, Drew Butera, and Reid Brignac) might never appear in the Majors again, as should be the case with Martinez.  Yet, here he is wearing a Philadelphia Phillies uniform.

But wait, it gets worse.  Mid-season acquisition, John McDonald, is ranked 417th out of 429 players over the same time frame with a .590 OPS.

Ask any baseball analyst, fan, or bum and they'll tell you the Phillies problems are with the bullpen and the OFFENSE.  Why then, would Amaro put two of the worst offensive players on the same team at the same time?

Oh, and to fix the bullpen, he recalled Raul Valdes the other day.  He of a 7.59 ERA.

Three cheers for Ruben Amaro Jr. for 2013 GM of the Year!!!

Amaro has to be the first to go. I wouldn't want him putting together a fantasy baseball team(considering he should be great for it seems he is living in fantasyland) much less a major league team. I have to question last night's move by Cholly to have McDonald, who has been bounced around more than a tennis ball, to pinch hit for the pitcher in the fifth. Cholly was trying to get the offense going with the one guy who is on the team as a defensive replacement because he couldn't get a hit off a tee. Time to change not only the team, because that was a given, but the management as well. Cholly was already out the door but Amaro hasn't made anything easy on him and he has to be gone before he messes anything more up.

Hey Mini Mart got a hit

Who gives two squirts of piss?

Christopher Usewicz said...

Is that necessary? It was more shock then anything else and in no way did I imply that he is worth bringing to the majors. The sad state of the minors is another reflection of Amaro.

Christopher- I'm just angry. That was an attempt at humor, not contempt at you.

I know. I actually called the radio station the other day being that I was so fed up I had to vent and typing it online did little to vent the anger. The team is showing no fight. No one is angry at anything on the team. Us fans, going by the texts the last few nights are shocked at what we are seeing. We may not be as talented but when did that ever stop them from going out there and giving it all. Jroll is the leader and he looks bored. Imagine if CBP is empty the next time they are in town, will it send a message that more than just player changes need to be made?

With Mini Mart being recalled, that must mean JRoll trade is imminent. SS will be manned by Mini/MacMart platoon.

My Prediction of Amaro like moves now:
Cliff Lee to the Rangers for a bullpen reliever
MiniMart trade to Marlins will fail since they will not include Stanton and their top prospect.
Howard given 5 additional years on his contract despite being on DL
Chad Durbin reappears on team

The more players on the team with lower OPS than Howard, maybe then he will look better

2nd Place Baby!

Shut up! This is a lousy team. Why should we be happy with that? Amaro could have kept this team a winner had he not made some horrible moves over the part few years.

By the way, I expect Chris Dickerson to be wearing a Phillies uniform by weeks end.

Nats 2-11 last 13 games.

2.5 Runs Per Game.

2 Ahead of the Mets.

Sign Chase.

2nd place means Jack shit if they aren't vying for a playoff spot.

I would like them to extend Utley for a couple of years

Bob D said...

We are like the fans in the movie major leagues.
They still suck

GM-Carson said...

I would like 2 years with a vesting 3rd for Utley. He's old and brittle, but still very good when on the field.

If I found a Genie's lamp and rubbed it, I would wish for these things:

1) World peace.
2) An end to world hunger.
3) Ruben Amaro to get fired.

GM-Carson said...

Looks like a sweep. Exactly what I predicted.

GM-Carson said...

Steven Susdorf has been summoned from AAA with Dom Brown hitting the DL with concussion like symptoms.

Just say no to an Utley extension. To invert an expression, its throwing bad money after good. Diminishing returns. Period.

Morak99 said...

Who knows. Chase Utley plays to win. If he wan'ts to win the next couple of years, Philadelphia ain't the place to do it.

Bob D said...

Morak, Phils dont need a complete rebuild. They are only a few players away from being a contender with a couple in the minors that may help (Asche/Biddle).

I was just looking at our AAA stats - why haven't they given this Greg Smith guy a look on the MLB club? He's having a great year, so why not?

Greg Smith is a former MLB player attempting to make his way back.

You are silly.

Who else can catch the ball in center for defense moving Mayberry to RF in the late innings?

Lost Halladay
Lost Hamels
1/2 Utley
Lost Howard to Knee for playing on repaired ankle.
1/2 Cooch
Broken foot CF Revere.
Lost Adams.
All the Minor league relievers not
working out.
Now Dom Brown out with Concusion.

Not the worst GM ever silly goose.
This is s team sport. The Pitching
is the main problem.

Is the Yankees and Red Sox GMs and 20 other teams the worst GMs ever?

No. Injuries have decimated a good solid team.

GM-Carson said...

Sir Alden- thing is, he should have known most of these problems were likely to occur. Every injury aside from Revere and Dom's were to be expected in some nature. That's what makes him a bad GM. That, and he wastes money- see Papelbon and Howard.
