Roster Moves Coming

After last night's 5th consecutive loss, the Phillies optioned Cesar Hernandez back to Lehigh Valley.  Someone will be summoned today to take his spot on the 25-man roster.  I propose Darin Ruf.  Pitchers John Lannan and Carlos Zambrano are both ready to be added to the roster as well, so corresponding moves need to be made.  Here's what I would do...

Down:
Cesar Hernandez
Joe Savery
Tyler Cloyd

Up:
Darin Ruf
John Lannan
Carlos Zambrano

Darin Ruf would start in left field, while Domonic Brown shifts to right field.  Delmon Young is benched.  Amaro made a dickish comment recently about how Ruf's 30 homeruns in Double-A didn't really mean anything.  Well, I'll tell you what does mean something- this team's offense not scoring enough runs and your right field solution Delmon Young being the piece of shit I knew he was.

Lannan takes over as long reliever in the bullpen.  He could be moved into the rotation, but I'd rather see what Big Z has to offer there.  Zambrano seems motivated and has a better bat than Freddy Galvis, so I'd like to see him pitching more innings and getting some at bats along the way.

Speaking of Freddy Galvis, he needs to be benched and Kevin Frandsen should start at 2nd until Utley's return.  Also, Mayberry should start at 1st base against lefties, with Howard sitting.

This team is a mess and going with status quo isn't going to work.  Shake things up.  Honestly, what would it hurt?

I like it. What about Horst, Adams, Bastardo and the like?

Bastardo and Adams stay.

I'd like to see Horst replaced by Marcio Robles or Cesar Jimenez.

Frandsen definitely needs more playing time. I don't get Manuel's love affair with Galvis, seeing that he's a purported hitting guru and all.

So do you think the struggles of Bastardo and Adams just need to be worked out? Or a product of Dubee's coaching? Or a product of Manuel thinking his "matchups" are always perfect?

I'm not convinced they can turn it around at the MLB level. Adams seems like he'll always be hurt and Bastardo can't find the zone anymore (K/9 is 8.7, down from 14 last year!) I wonder if Lannan going to the pen helps. But I also wonder if a mid-season acqusition is in order. Not sure the team knows if they'll be spending money just yet, though.

Geeze Louise!

I agree with everything you said!

Geeze Louise!

Bring up Mini-Mart - let Galvis start full time at Short in AAA.

Maybe keep Savery as the LOOGY can't be worse than Horst.

The Joe Savery experiment is over. He never lived up to his potential. He should be handed his walking papers permanently.

When was teh last time Hernandez got on the field? Did I miss something? Is he being DFA'd because he won't get any time?

I prefer Savery to Horst.

The Phillies need a psychologist, not a chiropractor as Hamels has obtained. Though not the most talented roster, I see these pitchers, with the exception of Cliff Lee, getting rattled by everything that goes bad.

Example. Cole pitching a good game the other night. Call doesn't go his way. Gets mad, shakes head and gives up 3 consecutive hits.

Last year Cole was confident. What happened. These people are human being and under extraordinary pressure. Bring someone in to deal with that. That vibe is really what is killing this team right now.

Mini-Mart should be released to make room on the 40 man roster.

Bastardo still has value, but should only be working.g in losses right now. Not with the lead in the 7th.

Release minimart and bring up this lady.

Yes, this lady.

WooT! Martinez, who was called up to the Phillies on May 24 when Chase Utley went on the DL and sent back to the IronPigs on June 3 when Young returned, has been red-hot since coming back, hitting .464 (13-for-28) with eight runs scored, two homers and three RBI in nine games. He's hit safely in 14 of his last 15 Triple-A games (20-for-49, .408), raising his average from .216 to ,285.

Martinez was hitless in two at-bats with the Phillies.

12 hits, 1 run through seven. Even when they're winning, they stink.

I hate Michael Martinez. Everyone in baseball laughs at the fact he gets a Major League paycheck. It's a f'n joke!

People bitch about Bastardo's control, just wait until they have to deal with Jake Diekman.

Just back from the bar. How does a team collect 16 hits and only score 3 runs. That has to be some kind of record.
