Roster Moves and Whatnot

*The Phillies gave away minor league pitcher, Michael Cisco.  Not released, not waived, not traded, but literally given to the Angels. No compensation.  Very altruistic of them.  The 25 year old has been amazing since converting to relief.  Over the past two seasons in Double and Triple-A he has gone 13-3, in 69 appearances, pitching 137.1 innings, with 109 strikeouts, a 1.70 ERA, and a 1.17 WHIP.  Now watch him to go on and become the next great setup man while the Phillies struggle trying to find consistency in their bullpen.

*Yuniesky Betancourt is making himself appear to have value.  If he doesn't make the Phillies roster, he very well might make another team's.  For example, the Cardinals, lacking surefire shortstop are a possible destination.  Sure, how about Betancourt straight up for Shelby Miller?  Seems fair.

*Justin De Fratus and Jake Diekman won't be on the Opening Day roster.  They've been optioned to Triple-A, meaning Michael Stutes, Jeremy Horst, Raul Valdes, and Phillippe Aumont are competing for the final 3 spots in the bullpen.

*All this talk about Rule 5 pick Ender Inciarte making the team needs to stop.  He's never played above Single-A and aside from defense and some speed, he doesn't have much upside.  If Ruf isn't staying with the Phils, my vote goes for Jermaine Mitchell.  He has speed, defense, and some pop.  Plus, he's shown he can do it at Triple-A, which is a far cry from the low minors.

*Roy Halladay was looking to shut up the naysayers, but instead was removed after one inning because of illness.  I am worried about him.  His demeanor/mound presence has been shaken and his velocity is in the mid-80's.  Those aren't good things.

The fact that Aaron Cook is getting a number of starts is a little worrisome. Are they anticipating Doc on the DL?

Cook is going to be AAA starter for any injury, thus he is not a bullpen candidate.

Bentacourt traded for what? Maybe nothing also? If they wait till the 24th, the Phils may release him.

Mitchell has been impressive so far. He needs to play a bit more to see what he can do.

Watch out now, Ruf is starting to hit a bit more. I think its a bit late for him to make the team, but not out of the question.

Question is will Mayberry and or Nix get cut.

Hopefully Halladay's stomach virus doesn't mean an MRI of shoulder. The Phils are never truthful with injuries.

17 runs to the Braves today. The Phils pitching staff has been horrific this spring. Probably shouldn't be worried, but I am slightly.

Dom Brown with homerun #6.

The man has been one of the best in Spring Training so far.

Despite the Pitching struggles, this has been quite the spring for the Phillies bats.

Dom Brown: .397/.465/.714, 6HR (Suprisingly only 2 Doubles)
Ryan Howard: .317/.338/.663, 5HR
Ben Revere .328/.359/.410, 5SB
Jimmy Rollins: .300/.391/.500, 2SB (Includes WBC stats)

The backup infielders (Galvis, Betancourt, Frandsen, and Orr) are hitting a combined .325/.353/.531, but have made a combined 6 errors.

Don't worry about Doc. Pappelbon scares me. The bullpen has alot to prove. Their has to be more to that Cisco give away. He looked good.
