Adios Schwimer

Seems the Phillies grew tired of Michael Schwimer schtick and decided to part ways with him yesterday by shipping him north of the border to America's hat (aka- Canada).  He has annoyed/angered the organization over the past two seasons with tweets about not being called up from the minors when he believed was the right time and his grievance against them for shipping him back to the minors when he claimed to be injured and therefore should have been on the MLB disabled list collecting a MLB paycheck and accruing service time.  In other words, a pain in the ass. Just look at that melancholy and disgruntled.

The Toronto Blue Jays get a 27 year old reliever with a 4.62 ERA over 47 appearances, 48.2 IP, with 52 K, and a 1.40 WHIP during his time with the Phils.  His minor league stats are much more impressive- 185 G, 252.1 IP, 332 K, 2.60 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 55 SV.

In exchange, the Jays sent first baseman Art Charles to Philly.  He's 22 years old, hasn't played above low-A ball yet, and has a .239 batting average over parts of 3 seasons.  In other words, not a prospect.  He does have power and on base skills though, so maybe he'll have some redeeming value, but not likely.

Meaningless Spring Training Update- Phils fell to the Astros in their Grapefruit opener 8-3.

*Hamels tossed 2 scoreless innings.
*Every Phillies reliever gave up at least 1 run.
*Ruf went 0-3, as did Howard.
*The Astros swiped 4 bags.
*There were only 4 strikeouts in the game total between the 2 teams and Howard K'd twice. Pathetic.

Another Phillies pitcher once tried to do what Schwimer did - claimed injury to avoid being sent to AAA, Scranton-Wilkes-Barre at the time. He did get put on the DL. Within a couple of months, he was back with the team and threw a no-hitter soon after that. You may remember Terry Mulholland.

Best pickoff move ever.

*Halladay 2 IP, 1 run off a HR
*Rodrigo Lopez 3 IP, 0 R
*Howard 2 hits
*Ruf 0-3, again
*Frandsen hit a HR
*J-Roll with a SB

Schwimer has a cool name, likely be the only one of these two in the trade to appear in majors. Blue Jays just got much better with him added to the relief corps depth & former Phil JA Happ breaking Grandersons arm today. LOL

Brown with a HR and a good game from Howard today. Ruf did well in the scrimmage but has been a bust the last 2 days. We will see

Stereotypical AAAA pitcher.

He could be a great ROOGY.

But two lefties in Lakewood will be fun to follow L. Green Batting 4th and the New Monster Batting 5th. Both big lefties.
