Despite being proclamined dead after they flatlined in July, the Phillies have been reanimated and are looking to play the roll of comeback kid. A lot of breaks would have to go their way in order for this improbable story to end happily, but there is a possibility, there is a pulse.

They have as much chance of making the playoffs as that band has of winning a Grammy Award. Wow. That is some really bad music. I can only imagine how they formed that band. "Hey, can anybody here sing? No? Not at all? Well we won't let that stop us!"
The Cardinals have too many games against the Astros left for the Phils to have a chance. If that had not been the case, there may have been slim hope.
I don't think it'll happen. I foresee ending 2-3 games out of the 2nd Wild Card. However, it is nice to have meaningful games again and I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
I vote for making the playoffs - with the schedule and how the pitching has been, this team has a great desire to make it.

I predict they tie the cards on the last day of the season and then lose a 1 game playoff for the 2nd wild card as Kyle loesch out duels Doc 1 to 0. Howard makes the final out and tears his other achillies running to first.
2012 was not a good season, but I do think RAJ got the idea that what he's been doing isn't working and in doing so will save the franchise a major collapse over the next few seasons. I think it will still be 3-4 years at least before they contend for another title, but at least we'll have meaningful baseball to tide us over. I predict the mid 2010s will be much like the mid 2000s for the franchise now, which is more than I'd have given it in march.
Joe- Comeback Kid's "singer" might not be great, but that is some very good hardcore punk. Nice breakdowns, chants, and melodic guitar riffs.

Hmm, we may be in more contention then we think. Let's say the Phillies and Cardinals both win tommorow, and we are 4 games out. The Cards then have a 4 game set with the Dodgers, while we play Houston. If they split and we sweep Houston (which is very do-able), then we're two games out. Meanwhile, the Braves are cooling off, meaning the last 6 of 9 we play against Washington might be against their bench and prospects since they'll clinch early, meaning the needed 12-5 finish or so at that point is within reach. Still very unlikely, but their chances are way better now than they were in 2007 or the Cards were last year, so we'll see.

I agree 100%! I'd love to eat my words about Manuel. I still don't think he is very good, but if he gets this group into the playoffs I can at least let him manage next year (then we will re-evaluate ha)!
