The Howard Wins Ball Games & Other Stuff

The Howard- when a player hits a homerun, strikes out, and commits an error all in the same game.

J-Roll was the first Phillie to do it this season, Chooch did it over the weekend, and now Ryan Howard (the stat's namesake) laid claim to his first Howard of 2012 last night.  All three times the Phillies won the game.  Coincidence?  I think not.  Karmic retribution, baby!

It was The Big Piece's first E, HR, and RBI of the season.  Welcome back!

Other Stuff:
*Perennial Howard leader Mark Reynolds committed his third of the season last night too, tying him with teammate Matt Wieters.  Oh, those O's.

*Todd Zolecki wrote a nice piece on the future of Cole Hamels and some other Phillies. He gave some real insight/opinion that may not sit well with fans, but that is his job as a writer.  Truth is, Hamels is going to get very expensive and the Phils may not be able to afford/retain him, so trading him for a "can't miss" prospect might be the way to go, so that they're not left empty-handed when he signs elsewhere this offseason.  To hell with public relations, this season is dead, and if they want to contend again in 2013, trading some players like Hamels, Victorino, Pierre, and Polanco could be the best route to take.  Wouldn't hurt to listen to offers for Rollins either, assuming a near MLB ready SS would be in some package coming from another swap.

*Joe Blanton has been very good in about half his starts this season and very bad in the other half.  There seems to be no middle ground with him.  He's 8-8 with a 4.79 ERA and 1.23 WHIP, and he's on a pace for 210 innings pitched.  Does he have any trade value?  It sure would be nice if he did, because Tyler Cloyd deserves a 2 month tryout. In 19 starts, he's 12-1 with a 1.93 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 85 K in 121.1 IP.  That's friggin' awesome!

This team is a contender for next year (too far out for this year)

Amaro should assemble a team for next year by moving players who do not figure into next years plan

1) although this season is gone, without a major power in the NL, this team should be back in the mix next year. with hamels, that is a certainty, which is why i want them to throw truck loads of money his way

2) as for everybody else. trade 'em.

3) blanton is unlucky half of the time. right?

4) if they need a starter again, and they use KK and don't bring up Cloyd, i'll lose my shit. i'll be blogging about the wnba full time.

If Hamels is not traded and walks, I am going with him wherever he goes and will refuse to root for the Phillies until RAJ's ass is fired.

Oh crap, Doc still doesn't look good.

I want 2010-2011 Halladay back.

Sure am glad Chase and Ryan are here to save the season. Yep. Sure am glad.

Howard is slow.

Halladay looked good aside from 1 inning.

Offense sucks tonight.

Season- still over.

Four in a row

Asking for a Cliff Lee pitched game to end with a win today might be too much.

If the Phil's can get to within 5 of the wildcard, and trade for two bullpen pieces before August 1 then I'm back on the wagon

6 yr/$130M offer for Hamels to be offered soon.

Doubt that gets it done.

Ben said...

6/130 is close. Very close. Hamels probably won't take it. His open market value is probably more like 7/150.

GM-Carson said...

Hamels is not worth 7/150. No pitcher is. That type of money hamstrings you moving forward.
