Breaking News: Cliff Lee Wins!!!

On the day that celebrates our nation's Deceleration of Independence, Cliff Lee finally won his first game of the 2012 season, thus shaking the shackles that bind him. Congrats Cliff!  You and your teammates should pop some bubbly in the clubhouse, because you won't be doing it in October.

Idea for 2013:

Rollins/SS, Utley/LF, Brown/CF, Howard/1B, Ruiz/C, Pence/RF.

Trade Victorino and Hamels in hopes of landing some of the following- CF, 2B, 3B (I'm not convinced Dom Brown can be starting outfielder in the Majors).

Prospect Cesar Hernandez has been hitting very well all season for Reading. Promote him to Lehigh for the 2 months and then to the Phils in September if he succeeds.

Schwimer, Papelbon, Bastardo, and...Stutes, Savery, Diekman?

Halladay, Lee, Worley, Kendrick, and Cloyd.

Once Hamels is traded, Cloyd needs to be given a real look for the final 2 months of the season. Kendrick can move back to the bullpen if the Phils were able to sign another starting pitcher.

how fitting is this

cliff lee wins his first game, on independence day, against the mets

This sucks. Every game the Phillies win means a worse draft pick.

Shackle shaking? Well, maybe Lee has some trade value now.

Trade Idea - How about Shane Victorino, Dom Brown, and Kyle Kendrick to SD for Huston Street and Carlos Quentin? Then call up Tyler Cloyd to take Kendrick's rotation spot.

Hamels to TEX for Profar (SS) and Olt (3B). Anything less and the deal doesn't get done

Victorino, Brown, Schwimer, and Kendrick to SD for Street (RP) and Quentin (OF).

Wigginton to some AL team that needs a DH for some minor league depth.

DFA or outright Sanches.

Bring up Aumont. If he struggles, bring up DeFratus once he is healthy.

I'd also look at moving Pierre and Blanton for some minor league depth, but didn't factor that below:

Leaves you with:

C - Ruiz
1B - Howard
2B - Utley
3B - Olt
SS - Rollins (Profar debuts in 13, starts in 14)
LF - Quentin
CF - Mayberry (plays everyday - sink or swim)
RF - Pence

Bench - Polanco (super sub)
Bench - Pierre
Bench - Nix (Pridie til he is back)
Bench - Kratz/Schneider
Bench - Fontenot
Bench - Galvis/Luna

SP - Halladay
SP - Lee
SP - Blanton (get a legit #3 in the offseason)
SP - Worley
SP - Cloyd

RP - Papelbon
RP - Street
RP - Bastardo
RP - Diekman
RP - Valdes/Horst
RP - Aumont/DeFratus

Street and Quentin are free agents at the end of the season. No thanks.

So is Victorino.

I agree though that you would need some decent minor leaguer back in that trade.

GM-Carson said...

If Victorino is traded, they better be getting something back that will be useful for a few seasons at least.

We're rebuilding. Unless the Rays want to trade Evan Longoria or something impossible like that, we need to get prospects, prospects, prospects.

•"We plan on being contenders in ’13, ’14, ’15 and ’16," said Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. to reporters (including Matt Gelb of The Philadelphia Inquirer) when asked about selling at the deadline (Sulia link). "So we’re not blowing this team up. That’s not going to happen, regardless of what happens over the next couple of weeks."

*I wonder if he understands that trading Hamels, Blanton, Polanco, Pierre, and Victorino isn't blowing the team up.

Jon Papelbon, y u no make save?

C.M.R. said...
