Stats- AVG/OPS, Runs, Doubles and Homeruns or Extra Base Hits, Runs Batted In, and Offensive Wins Above Replacement.

2011 NL East First Basemen Rankings:
1. Michael Morse/Nationals .303/.910, 73 R, 36 DBL, 31 HR, 95 RBI, 3.9 OWAR.
2. Ryan Howard/Phillies .253/.835, 81 R, 30 DBL, 33 HR, 116 RBI, 2.6 OWAR.
3. Gaby Sanchez/Marlins .266/.779, 72 R, 35 DBL, 19 HR, 78 RBI, 2.0 OWAR.
4. Freddie Freeman/Braves .282/.795, 67 R, 32 DBL, 21 HR, 76 RBI, 1.7 OWAR.
5. Daniel Murphy/Mets .320/.809, 49 R, 36 XBH, 49 RBI, 1.8 OWAR.
Notes- Murphy was a fill-in for Ike Davis, who is set to return in 2012, with Murphy shifting to 2nd or 3rd base. Sanchez is the only one of this group who plays good defense, as Freeman and Morse each had negative DWAR, with Howard breaking even. Howard's injured Achilles coupled with Freeman's maturation (only 22), Davis returning for a broken ankle, and Sanchez moving into a new ballpark with more runners on base in front of him (Jose Reyes), could shake up the 2012 rankings.

And if Feilder signs with Nats???
If Fielder signs with the Gnats the Phillies better start quaking in their spikes.
I think it's a matter of pride for Fielder. He's languishing on the market and the Nats - who apparently have the money to sign him - can take advantage by offering a team friendly contract to Fielder (in either years or dollars). Instead of 8 years and $200 million maybe they can offer 6 and $140. Because in reality, who are they bidding against?
Signing Fielder, however, may buck the team's plan. In reality, because they were going to be terrible no matter what, perhaps they should have waiting until this year to make a splash with Fielder or Pujols and perhaps Reyers rather than signing Werth last year, but hindsight is always 20/20.
Don't sleep on the Nationals rotation and bullpen.
Do they still have the Yankee Clippard?
By the way, I know the Mets still have David Wright at 3rd base, so Murphy will split time with Turner at 2nd and play a little 3rd or 1st to give Wright and Davis breaks sometimes.
I thought Morse played outfield for the Nats?
Morse played LF some, but primarily 1B due to the injury of LaRoche.
And with the trade for big Z and the new "uniforms", The Marlins have assembled my least favorite team of all time. I predict they finish 4th.
The Marlins will only be paying $2.5M of Zambrano's 2012 salary, and I think he'll greatly out-pitch that. He still has the stuff to be a good pitcher. I know he's a headcase, but there's always a chance he calms down for the majority of a season and puts together a quality campaign.
The National League East aside from the Mets is a beast of a division. Nationals are improved. Braves have great pitching. Phillies are great. Marlins are vastly improved.
Won't be such a cakewalk in 2012.
1. Phillies
2. Nats- 3 games back
3. Braves
4. Marlins
5. Mets - losing 100 games
Book it!
Just because the Marlins signed all this new talent doesn't mean they can play as a team...which is a huge part of winning (see Phillies)...I predict that they do worse than everybody else because all they did is sign huge egos that aren't team players
Reyes has a huge ego and Zambrano is a headcase, but Bell and Buerhle by all accounts seem like team players.
Yeah I'm waiting for the first Reyes vs hanley I'm taking my ball and going home fight! It's gonna happen...I know he said he's cool with playing third but I don't see it lasting!
Thank you for any other great article. Where else may just anybody get that kind of info in such a perfect approach of writing? I have a presentation subsequent week, and I am at the search for such info.
