The Answer To The Problem

Here's what the Phllies need to do to win a game:

They need to calm down and collectively take a deep breath. Skip any planned meetings today. Show up to the ballpark only an hour or two before the game. Get in some light stretching and loosen up the arms. Then take the bats, and shove it up your butt.

Stanley is my hero.

Since September 10th, they've scored more than 3 runs only twice.

They are 1-9 over their last 10.

Bowker is now 0-12 as a Phillie.

From the Zo Zone:
"The Phillies have lost eight consecutive games since clinching the National League East on Sept. 17. They have not had an eight-game losing streak since 2000, when they finished 65-97 and had Omar Daal, Kent Bottenfield and Bruce Chen in the rotation, not Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt. They are the first team in baseball history to lose eight-straight games after clinching a division or league title and the first to lose eight-straight games after winning their 98th game."

My take- This is why you never let your foot off the neck of your opponent until the season is over. Giving breaks physically and mentally sounds all well and good, but the Phils were on a major roll and should have just kept chugging along right through the playoffs. Rest after the season.

The Phils are probably doubting themselves now and anyone who faces them in the playoffs suddenly isn't as intimidated as they were a week and a half ago.

The bullpen is pretty bad aside from Madson. Lidge is still wild and hittable. Bastardo looks cooked. Stutes has been good for 2 months.

The rotation is still good 1-3 (Halladay, Lee, and Hamels), but this offense sucks. #1-5 in the lineup are either in huge slumps (J-Roll, Vic, Utley) or hurt (Howard/Pence).

The magic switch ain't there and the Phils seemed f*cked!

Its going to be a painful (albeit short) postseason.

Cooked is right.

I was going to come on here and give props to the offense for giving us a 1 day reprieve from the crap circus they brought to town, but instead I'm going to bitch about just how bad Bastardo has gotten to be. He is horrible. No way he should appear in a postseason game. This is no hyperbole, Bastardo is done for the season.

Bastardo's last 12 appearances: 12 G, 9.1 IP, 10 H, 10 BB, 10 ER, 9.64 ERA, 2.14 WHIP. Ouch.
