Playoffs:

Let's put these numbers in perspective.
The Cardinals are the leading competitor for the Wild Card at 71-64. If they win all of their remaining 27 games the Phis could go 14-17 and still make the playoffs.
If the Cardinals win ~60% of their remaining games, they would end up about 88-74. The Phils could then go 4-27 to end the season and still make the playoffs.

I'm confused, I thought the Braves were the wild card leaders.
right, i meant to say "leading competitor," not leader. i'll change it.
ummmm John Bowker??.....uh..........ok?
The Bowker move is a bit puzzling. He's had a good year at Triple A, but so has Brandon Moss who already is in the Phils system. Maybe Bowker was the PTBNL from when the Phils shipped Brian Bocock to the Pirates.
he said bocock.
Corey- I'm still confused as to why we're talking about the Cardinals in regards to the Wild Card. The Phils have a big lead in the East on the Braves, Brewers lead the Cards, and the Dbacks lead the Giants. But the Braves have a far better record than the Cards, so why are they part of the equation?
Also, the Giants cut ties with Miguel Tejada and Aaron Roward. My how the mighty have fallen. (PEDs?)
The Cards matter because they are 2nd in the wild card. To clinch a playoff spot, they have to make it so they can't do worse than lead the WC.
IF the Phillies fell apart, and dropped below the Braves, the Braves would lead the East, and the Phillies would lead WC.
In that scenario, then the Phillies would be trying to hold back the Cardinals to clinch the wild card.
IF the nightmare scenario happened wouldn't the Phightins have to hold off the West runner-up as well?
I know we are only 2 innings in but Lee is just pounding the strike zone tonight.
@ Fuhs - thank you.
@ Paul Hedberg - yes, but the west runner-up is currently 1/2 game behind the cards.
Ok, that's what I thought you were trying to get at, but wasn't quite sure since no mention of the Braves was made. Got it.
Hunter Pence is pretty good.
How is that Hunter Pence thing working out? Do we think he looks pretty good in that Phils uniform rather than that Braves uni? Just think, we could still be schlupping along with Dom! How's that working out for him in the minors? Doesn't think he needs winter ball, needs me time. Hello!
those maniacs broke dom brown! they knew he wasn't ready...
Did they start the playoff ticket sweepstakes yet. Seriously, the Phillies are now 16 games ahead of the second place wild-card team.
The Phillies are 40 games above .500
I feel your pain C.M.R. (and Dom). I hope the best for the guy. Somebody needs to work with him. All one had to do is see him attempt to catch ball first time and know there were some fundamentals missing. We all heard the guys got 'skeels' but not so sure they are being developed if so.
