Series Preview- Marlins (Part 4)

Philadelphia Phillies (53-32) @ Florida Marlins (38-46)

Pitching Match-Ups:
Monday, 6:10, Vance Worley vs. Ricky Nolasco
Tuesday, 7:10, Cole Hamels vs. Chris Volstad
Wednesday, 7:10, Kyle Kendrick vs. Anibal Sanchez

Previous Meetings:
In the middle of June the Phillies had a 4-game sweep over the Marlins and have won 7 of the 9 contests this season. The Phils have outscored the Fish 43 to 21. Yikes!

Fishy Bats:
R - 321 (25th)
AVG - .243 (24th)
OBP - .310 (23rd)
SLG - .374 (22nd)

Gaby Sanchez (.296/.847), Logan Morrison (.268/.832), and Mike Stanton (.255/.833) form a solid middle of the lineup that would be even more potent if lazybones Hanely Ramirez decided to give an effort (.227/.669). Greg Dobbs is still starting most of the games at 3rd base and is still batting over .300.

They have a poor stolen base success rate (66%), so that might help Chooch gun them down considering his rate is poor too (27%).

Fishy Pitching:
ERA - 3.93 (15th)
WHIP - 1.31 (14th)
BAA - .248 (10th)

Today's starter, Nolasco, can be lights out or extremely hittable. I'm hoping for the later. Volstad comes in with a 5.08 ERA. Sanchez is their best starting pitcher 3.30 ERA, but can be gotten too as swell. This series looks good for the Phightins if they decided to pack their bats on final leg of this 6-game road trip.

In the bullpen they've got LOOGY Randy Choate, and we can be sure to see him in to face Utley and Howard. Leo Nunez has closing duties, but he's far from a sure thing. Rookie Steve Cishek and ex-Padre Edward Mujica are becoming their go-to guys.

Prediction:
Given the fact that KK is making a start in this series and the Phils are allergic to sweeps, I predict 2 out of 3 for the good guys.

Their Michael Martinez:
Dewayne Wise, he is a Quad-A lifer that is never good enough to hold down a MLB roster spot, and this season is no different (.189/.394). He plays outfield, but that's it. He plays outfield, he doesn't hit. Currently in his 9th MLB season with a .220/.630 AVG/OPS in 389 games.

What We're Drinking:
Corey - water. Lots of water because I've had nothing but but beer since Thursday.

Carson - Arnold Palmer (half iced tea, half lemonade). It's hot as balls and I need something refreshing.

Happy 4th of July!

Their Michael Martinez?

Shit, forgot that. I'll fix now.

Also, don't be surprised to see the Phils swinging a deal for the recently DFA'd Juan Rivera. He kills lefties.

So, he's injured. Great! Just means his sucking is going to continue.

Both Martinez/CF and Schneider/C in the lineup tonight. Phils are screwed!

Youth Brigade strikes again- Worley to Stutes to Bastardo.

Yeah just like last week, this kid is for real so far. We could very well end up with 4 top pitchers, especially Worley keeps going like he has been.

By the way- Phantastic Philsner turned out alright. Definitely has drinkability.

Anyone else notice that Dom Brown has come to life over the past few weeks? From flirting with the Mendoza line to around .230. Keep it up kid.

Did you know?

JRoll is in the Phils' top 4 all time for the following offensive categories: ABs, Runs, Hits, Doubles, Triples, Total Bases (ok he's 5th but will be 4th by September), Extra Base Hits, and Stolen Bases.
