Ryan Howard pinch hit for the 33rd time in his career yesterday and you all know the outcome- homerun. In 33 plate appearances as a pinch hitter, Howard owns a .433 AVG (13-30), with 3 DBL, 6 HR, 9 R, 13 RBI, and a 1.585 OPS. That's gotta be some sorta record. With Howard's career numbers against lefties being only .233/.753 (.239/.631 this season), Manuel would be smart to sit him against tough lefty starters more often and bring him in as soon as the righty reliever enters the game.
Speaking of Howard...(channeling my best T-Mac here) Seattle's Mike Carp has committed The Howard is back to back games. Funny thing, the homeruns were the first 2 of the season for him and so were the errors. Carp's Howards certainly aren't helping the Mariners win games either, as they're currently on a 14-game skid. Ouch!
Roy Halladay wilted in the Chicago heat in his last start, lasting only 4 innings. His shortest outing since Babe Ruth League. Luckily for Doc, the temperatures in Philly are only supposed to be around 92 degrees at game time with plenty of humidity. Oh wait, that's bad.
