Magic Number Watch

Stat O' The Day
The six division leaders have the following leads: 1.5, 1, 1.5, 0.5, 1, and 6. Can you guess which lead is the Phils'?

Today
Ol' Girl Parts (9-2, 2.49) v. Jason Vargas (4-4, 4.13)
4:10, TV: WB17

T-Mac, while previewing today's game on the air last night, mentioned that Fuqua may sit some lefties against Vargas. Wheels took the opportunity to show off his great research skills by saying, and I paraphrase, "Yeah, but Vargas is tougher on righties than lefties."

I questioned this sentence immediately, so I did my own research. In 2011, here are Vargas' BAA slits: LH - .287, RH - .233. Wheels' appears... correct?! But only for a second, because in almost every other year the splits are reversed. For his career in the majors, lefties hit .238 compared to .270 for right handed batters. His career BABIP, WHIP and OPS numbers all favor righties, also.

Nice try, Wheels.

Wheels omnipotent. Whatever he says instantly becomes truth. How dare you mock him?

Don't look now.... but the gNats are tied for 3rd place. What is this world coming to?

Nats will become contenders this year and Strasbergh may push them to the playoffs when he returns - just not this year

Wheels ever wrong? He can't be why would Phillies keep him on the broadcast team - He a good looking broadcaster. :/

gNats will not be contenders this year. They may be on a role this month, but they don't have staying power yet. Possibly next year....

Things are really bad in Florida. Manager resigned.

Marlins don't seem to keep managers very long.

Gnats on a hot streak. They are improved, but they won't finish above .500.

Now for this Phillies offense. C'mon already!

I really question Manuel's intelligence when he plays Utley at 2nd 3 straight games when the DH is available.

Only 2 hits against Vargas is shit. This was a series they should have swept when you consider they beat King Felix.

yeah, they can't find a game to DH Utley???

should have taken 2 of 3 but they were due for a game like this, after all those in row in a short time and the long plane ride, etc. they need to recharge tomorrow...

oh yeah, and michael martinez in left field going O-fer and misplaying balls??? for fuck's sake, get rid of this guy.

GM-Carson said...

Every person that defends Michael Martinez's place on this roster deserves to be punched squarely in the face, hand and painfully.

There are guys at Triple-A that would likely be better. Quit giving this worthless trash a MLB paycheck.

It's gotta really piss these pitchers off when Charlie inserts 2 utility infielders and Francisco into his lineup behind them.

GM-Carson said...

I have a problem with the Phillies putting a lineup out there that looks like the Mariners or Padres.

delwyn young wouldve caught those balls in left field (b/c he's not martinez)

Raul played there for a few years and the 2nd game showed he can still field well there. With Matinez batting 9th made it seem like the pitcher was hitting, except Lee, Oswalt, Hamels, and Halladay can all hit better
