Phillies April Report Card

Record: 18-8 (best in baseball)

R - 120 (9th)
AVG - .261 (10th)
OBP - .328 (10th)
SLG - .390 (14th)
OPS - .718 (12th)
SB - 18 (14th)

C- Carlos Ruiz/Brian Schneider/Dane Sardinha batting a combined .180 (16-89). The trio has also only caught 18% of base thieves. Their game calling has been solid as always though. Grade- D.

1B- Ryan Howard .290/.911, 15 R, 27 RBI, 6 HR, and nary an error. Grade- A.

2B- Wilson Valdez/Pete Orr batting a combined .250 with only 5 walks and 4 doubles. Valdez has also hit into 4 double plays. Grade- D.

SS- Jimmy Rollins .285/.721, 17 R, 5 SB, 13:12 BB:KK. J-Roll is not a 3-hole hitter, but if he were batting leadoff, 2nd, or even 6th he'd be fine. Grade- B.

3B- Placido Polanco .398/.972, 18 R, 19 RBI. Polly is like Paula Abdul, straight-up hitter baby. Grade- A+.

LF- Raul Ibanez .161/.466. In the midst of an 0-30 and playing horrible defense. He's looking more and more like someone who shouldn't even be in the league, let alone starting. The man is like a Dyson, he never stops sucking. Grade- WTF?!

CF- Shane Victorino .288/.841, 19 R, 12 RBI, 4 HR, 5 SB. The little engine that could just does. Grade- A.

RF- Ben Francisco .266/.793, 10 R, 18 RBI, 4 HR. Hard to believe The Ben Francisco Treat's numbers are actually this decent. Batting behind Howard surely helps. Grade- B.

Others- John Mayberry .345/.941, Grade- A. Ross Gload .250/.500, Grade- D. Michael Martinez .176/.399, Grade- useless.

ERA - 3.18 (6th)
WHIP - 1.14 (1st)
BAA - .230 (4th)
QS - 19 (tied for 2nd)
BB:KK - 68:213 (1st)

*#:#= BB:K

1- Roy Halladay 4 W, 2.14/0.99, 46.1 IP, 7:47. Best pitcher in baseball. Grade- A+.

2- Cliff Lee 2 W, 4.18/1.05, 32.1 IP, 4:29. Honestly, I've been disappointed. He's not backing up the hype. Lucky for him, it was only April. Grade- C.

3- Roy Oswalt 3 W, 3.33/1.04, 27 IP, 7:21. Needs to give the Phillies more innings. Grade- B.

4- Cole Hamels 3 W, 3.13/1.11, 31.2 IP, 9:34. After a disastrous first outing has been great. Grade- B+.

5- Joe Blanton/Vance Worley 1 W, 4.75/1.45, 30.1 IP, 10:22. Blanton was half bad (really bad) and half good. Worley was great. Grade- D.

Jose Contreras 8 G, 8 IP, 5 SV, 0.00/1.00, 4:9. Too bad he's hurt. Grade- A.

Ryan Madson 10 G, 10 IP, 2 SV, 2 HLD, 2 W, 0.90/1.00, 3:12. If Mad Dog continues to pitch like this he's going to strike it rich this offseason. Grade- A+.

Baez Sucks 10 G, 10.1 IP, 1.74/1.26, 4:2. Seems to be getting lucky. Grade- B.

Kyle Kendrick 7 G, 10 IP, 1.80/1.10, 6:1. Horrible control, but is doing better than expected. Grade- C+.

Antonio Bastardo 10 G, 10.1 IP, 1 W, 1 SV, 0.87/0.77, 4:16. Best story of the Phils season thus far. Grade- A+.

David Herndon 11 G, 10.2 IP, 9.28/1.97, 7:3. Far too hittable with poor control. Don't understand why he has the most appearances and innings logged out of the pen. Grade- release him.

JC Romero 7 G, 4.2 IP, 3.86/1.29, 1:3. Why you gotta be hurtin'? Grade- C.

Others- Michael Stutes and Mike Zagurski did not pitch enough. Grade- incomplete.

Fielding: 11 errors (2nd fewest in baseball)

Somewhat fair assessments. I don't know if Schneider isn't another one who should be hittin the bricks.

This game is painful to watch.

The Phillies offense is still bad.

April's schedule was soft. Lets see how this team does against stiffer competition.

WTF is going on between the Phillies mgmt and David Herndon???!!! does he have pics of Uncle Cholly making out with an underage fan? Does have a screenshot of Amero giving head to Dave Montgomery? I haven't seen this kind of man-love since Greg Lewis was on AR's love radar for about five seasons.
