Shut 'em Down

I could use this platform today to bitch about Manuel's malfunction of continually starting Raul Ibanez against left-handed pitchers, or his refusal to remove Jimmy Rollins and his 1 RBI from the 3-hole in the lineup. I'd rather focus on the amazing feat of 5 shutouts posted by this pitching staff in just 19 games. The Phillies are tied for the best record in the Majors (13-6) and are poised for a big season if they can get some of these offensive flaws fixed. But for now, the pitchers will just have to continuing to shut 'em down.

Its f**king ridiculous. Rollins is my overall favorite, but bat him 5th or 6th and get rid of Old Ironsides. Demote him (rollins) and he always gets motivated by it. His defense is at least still pretty impressive.

i said this when predicting how ibanez would do this season - "He’s going to get more days off this season. (He played 155 in 2010.) He’s going to see a higher percentage of righties with Francisco/Mayberry getting ABs against lefties. He’ll get more days off away from home. The result: lower HR/RBI totals but overall a better season"

wow. was i wrong. after 19 games, ibanez has played in 19 games (18 starts.) of course, i was right about the low HR/rbi totals...

the phils 3 and 5 hitters are a combined

.224 AVG, 19 runs,11 RBIs, with 7 XBH

Compared to Cin(Leader in offense)
.375 Avg, 34 runs, 17 RBIs, 14 XBH

Play the percentages and set your guys up for success. Ibanez is old. that's not his fault. His skills are diminished, that happens. Play him against RHP and give Mayberry the start against LHP. A platoon is okay. Just ask the '93 Phils.

Jimmy Rollins is on pace for 9 RBI this season. He's hitting behind two guys that are over .300 and in front of an MVP. That's insanely and historically bad.
