From the looks of things, Facebook is excited about Cliff Lee's reunion with the Phillies. The following was found via WSBGMs' friends... Merry Cliffmas, Happy Halladays, Roy to the World and Cole in your stocking.
Skip Bayless should kill himself, or at the very least sever his tongue from his mouth.
Cliff Lee's deal is for 5 years/$120M. It includes a vesting option for $27.5M in 2016, or a $12M buyout. Meaning the deal is $132M minimum or $147.5M maximum.
The Yankees offered Lee 6 years/$132M with a $16M player option for a 7th year. Minimum $132, maximum $148.
Rangers offered 6 years/$138M with a vesting option that would have brought the deal to $161 over 7 years.
Mathematical breakdown: Phillies: if Lee doesn't reach vesting option and only pitches 5 seasons he'll receive $132M which averages out to $26.4M per year. If he reaches the vesting option, then it averages $24.6M over the 6 YR. Yankees: $22M per season over 6 YR, or $21.1M per season over 7 YR if he exercised the player option. Rangers: $23M per season over 6 YR or 7 YR period.
Turns out the Phillies offered the most per year. Sure he turned down guaranteed money from the Yanks, but he gets richer quicker with the Phils.
Jerry Crasnick says it's $120M guaranteed, 5-years $107.5 with a $12.5M buyout and a $27.5M vesting option that could push the deal to a maximum of $135M. He says the Yankees offer was $148M guaranteed which means Cliff left at least $13M on the table.
From Jayson Stark: The Yankees were willing to guarantee Lee $154 million for seven years. And instead, he picked a five-year deal worth around $120 million? Astounding.
Over the past 3 seasons the Phillies projected starting rotation has been workhorses.
Halladay- 98 GS, 735 2/3 IP, 7.5 IP per start. Lee- 93 GS, 667 1/3 IP, 7.2 IP per start. Hamels- 98 GS, 629 2/3 IP, 6.4 IP per start. Oswalt- 94 GS, 601 2/3 IP, 6.4 IP per start.
Here's some of what we've been able to gather during the first day here in Florida. Lots of information swirling around the Twitter, some of it questionable. For example, if the Phillies sign Cliff Lee, I'll cover spring training in a Speedo.

Ok, so he did take less money.

When does spring training start?
Any bets on what Jayson Werth is thinking tonight???
was it just me or did Bayless flip from "Lee would be THE ace" for the Yankees to "Lee would be CO-ACE with Sebathia" in less than a minute?
Andy Martino, It's Time To Hit The Gym
Andy Martino of The Daily News, on December 6th:

Andy Martino is a Speedo, sounds like a photoshop opportunity for Corey.
Durbin needs to call up Amaro and earn the easiest payday any relief pitcher has ever had.
wouldnt sabathia be the ace?
