Who's Next?

The rest of the National League (and American League, for that matter) should take notice of what happens when the Phils lineup Doc-Colbert-Roy2 for a series. The proverbial gauntlet has been thrown down and Phils now await a new challenger. Who's next?

H2O with the sweep! Now 10 in a row. Magic# at 4, it would be really nice to clinch this weekend at home. Then give everyone rest and the backups alot of playing time to prep them for the playoffs. The pitchers can still pitch on thier regular days but just have them throw shorter outings.

The 3 starters, Madson, and Lidge are pitching at an unbelievably high level right now.

And I was bored so I looked up Madson at baseball reference.

He has not given up an earned run since August 23 and prior to that no earned runs past July 29.

Since that July day he has 31 IP, 0.58 ERA and .87 WHIP and 36 Ks.

Then I got more bored. Since that same day the three-headed monster in our rotation has an ERA of 2.33 with a .97 WHIP.

And Lidge. 2.14 ERA, .95 WHIP, 22 Ks in 21 innings..

Just impressive.

In the game right now you will not find a more dominant trio in the rotation matched with the backend of the bullpen. The Big 3 and Madson/Lidge are fantastic. Be confident.

Little piece I wrote on Wilson Valdez over at More Hardball.

"We knew what we were getting into coming in here. We knew who they were pitching. We've all faced them before and they've all got great stuff. They executed every pitch and when they got themselves in trouble, they got out of it. That's what number ones do and all three of those guys are number ones."

Should I undertand the significance of that photo? What am I missing?

It looks like an Album cover I should know.

it's the album cover of "who's next" by the who. as you can see, they just got done urinating on that monolithic thing. i've added a braves logo and charlie manuel in place of bassist john entwhistle. basically, the phils "pissed all over" the braves and are ready for whoever is next. and bob's your uncle.

preemptive explanation - Bob's your uncle.

From Jayson Stark:
From 2004 to 2009, there were five 1-0 games at Citizens Bank Park. However, since July 10, there have now been six 1-0 games at there, and the Phillies have won five.
