1 Hit, Injuries & Hamels

The Phillies have been shutout 4 straight games at Citi Field. Last night was the worst one yet. Harry Doyle said it best...

Injuries:

Ross Gload is nursing his groin, but is available for pinch hitting duties. Carlos Ruiz missed last night with a sore right quad (probably did that while attempting to elude the victory mob), but is expected back in the lineup today. Ryan Howard and Chase Utley are both aiming for a Tuesday comeback to start the Giants series. Greg Dobbs and Domonic Brown would likely be sent down.

Hamels:
Ol' Girl Parts twirled another dandy. Last year's "unlucky" excuse by Sabermetrics was infuriating, but this this season there's no deny his unluckiness. A 7-9 record should not match up with a 3.33 ERA and more than a strikeout per inning pitched. Cole has 1 win in 9 starts since the beginning of July, but his ERA over that span is a sparkling 2.43. Jamie Moyer had 9 wins in 19 starts with a 4.84 ERA, there's absolutely no excuse for the Phils offense to be so putrid in their support of Hamels. Get him some W's!

Despite the gem he threw, it was the same nemesis that has plagued all Phillies pitchers that cost him. The inability to retire the third batter after getting the first two hitters out in an inning. If he retires Wright, then Beltran never comes to the plate to drive him in. I wish someone would make up a stat category for this. Runs allowed after retiring the first two batters in an inning. If you go back and look at the runs allowed after two outs, you would be amazed at how many of them ultimately made a difference in the outcome of the game. It's staggering. And yet, I never hear anyone talking about it.

Forget not getting the 3rd out. He gave up one run in a complete game and all the offense mustered was one single hit. And it was from Hamels himself! God damn I hate knuckleballers and metropolitans!

Carson your a pussy.

You do not deserve to have Hamels pitching for a team you follow.

I hear Howard needs more time beyond 8/17.

Also, i believe that was our 20th quality start that resulted in a loss. I think it was Hamels 10th!

Sir Alden- WTF? I'm a pussy? The "Ol' Girl Parts" was a joke. He's pitching like a staff ace. I wasn't making fun of him, I was more so mocking myself for ever making fun of him in the first place. Sorry you did not get the joke. For the last fucking time- I like Cole Hamels.

LOL - I love it! The drama!

As I said for Oswalt, Hamels needs to prepare better- he needs to spend more time in the batting cage to give himself a better chance on winning a game.

Newsflash to Matty. Pitchers will give up runs. If you are going to go after a guy who gives up one run in a game like that, perhaps you should take a sledgehammer to your TV and radio, and sell any tickets you have left through Stubhub so you aren't forced to see such a terrible performance by a pitcher.

Is it just me or is everyone a little testy today.

Getting 1-hit ball a Mets knuckleballin' pitcher with the last name Dickey makes one testy. Better swing the f'n bats tonight!

I was actually trying to be lighthearted in my post today though- hence the video and "Ol' Girl Parts" reference, but I suppose I burned that bridge.

First hit for the Phillies tonight = A Pitcher

This team sucks.

They scored! Halladay in beast mode.

4 runs and 1 RBI makes for an odd box score.

No more Hamels joke.

OK? OK.

He deserves respect. Especially because of his low run support.

He is learning the cutter they said
on the Mets PreGame and has his left handed Fastball up to 95.

Next year if he does not hurt himself and over the last 10 games he has been the Phillies Ace - even over Halladay.

We are sooooooo lucky.

Yes Sir Alden, Hamels is once again fulfilling the promise of his draft status and talent. I very much look forward to a rotation built upon The Roys and Hamels next season. It makes for a scary proposition for the opponent. Now if they can only get Dom Brown ready to take over for Werth.

I'm starting to wonder if Sir Alden may be Heidi Hamels...
