Lopsided & Trade Thoughts
Today's matchup is extremely lopsided, in favor of Colorado. They send Cy Young hopeful Ubaldo Jimenez to the mound while Philly counters with Kyle Kendrick who is fresh off a minor league demotion. Jimenez leads the majors with 15 wins and has only suffered 1 loss, while KK has only 5 wins to 4 losses (although that number should be higher). Jimenez is a strikeout pitcher while KK pitches to contact. In fact, Ubaldo had more K's last year (198) than KK has in his entire career (183). Stunning enough though, Jimenez has not done well at all against the Phils in 2 career starts- 8.10 ERA, 1.90 WHIP. Don't get too excite though, KK hasn't been much better facing the Rockies in 5 starts- 5.93 ERA, 1.72 WHIP. Prediction- Phils win 5-4. What can I say, sometimes I'm an optimist.
Just a quick thought on trading for a pitcher…
Dan Haren >>>>>Roy Oswalt.
1) He’s younger.
2) He’s under control through 2013 (with an option for that last year) so if the Phils have to give up prospects, they are getting more in return, at least in terms of years.
3) He’s just as good, if not better. His ERA the previous three seasons is around 3.20. He’s not having great year in 2010, but if you look at his peripherals and believe those Sabermetrics guys, it’s a trend that likely won’t continue. His K/9 is still very good (9.0) but he’s…well, unlucky. His BABIP is .350 and his HR/FB is way up 14% from previous years. Basically, he’s Girl Parts from the first part of this season, and we see how his luck has turned.
So if Roy Oswalt goes elsewhere, I could care less. I want Dan Haren. And I want the Phils to swap Jayson Werth in a three-way to get him…
