Phillies Add Another Roy

"The Roys" is hopefully the phrase we hear ring joyfully in our ears as the Phillies make their way to a third straight World Series appearance. Ruben Amaro Jr. worked his general managing magic today and landed Roy Oswalt. A stalwart in Houston since 2001, he's leaves being one of the best pitchers in Astros franchise history. Sent packing from Philly is lefty JA Happ and prospects Jonathan Villar/SS and Anothony Gose/OF. Neither are can't miss, but Gose is extremely speedy and Villar may have been an eventual replacement for Rollins. Whatever, the Phils have arguably the best 1-2-3 punch atop their rotation now with the The Roys (Halladay & Oswalt) and Cole Hamels. Plus Ed Wade helped out Philly by kicking $11M the Phils way. Meaning Oswalt costs the Phillies $12M for the remainder of this season and next...pretty damn good. Happ will be missed, but he's been missed all season. Villar and Gose may become something worth mentioning down the road, but for now all that's worth mentioning is that Roy Oswalt is a Phillie!!!

Excellent Trade. No one Lost that I was fretting about.

The Phillies get 11 Million from the Astros and give Oswalt 1 Mil extra from 2 to 3 Mil if he has a 2012 buyout.

Oswalt has 4+ left this year - minus the + from Happ = means this year will will be getting Oswalt for the same price as Happ for the rest of 2010.

Next year 11-1-4 = 6 to take away from 16 Mil means we get Oswalt for 2011 for 10 Million.

Gose has already been flipped to the Blue Jays. He had to be the minor leaguer to go in the trade, his SB percent is very low, and he is a great guy, but we have 4 guys like him in the pipeline (Gillies - James - Hudson - Castro).

Villar has 41 errors this year in Low A. Again good guy, but if he is sacrificed to save the other 8 A and Low A Gems (Singleton - Cosart - Colvin - May - Santana - Valle - Aumont - Ramirez - and Rodgriguez in AA) then I wipe my brow and say phew!!!!!!

I was really worried about losing Singleton or one of the other 8.

LOL, looks like another Ed Wade classic.

They're learning to love him in Houston, I suppose.

Not a bad trade: they gain Oswalt - a top pitcher with $11mil to offset salary. they lose Gose and Villar in which both I wasnt really impressed with even though Villar may have a good bat at SS. they also lose Happ and really good young pitcher, but he may also be at the top of his value too.

I'd like to see the phils go ahead and take a shot at picking up either Garrett Atkins or Hank Blaylock. If they suck you havent really lost anything.

8 in a row. This team is hot. Braves and Giants lost.

I really hope they don't go to some kind of platoon thing with Brown and Francisco. You brought him up, now let the kid play.

Heard Wheels say that Charlie plans on playing him 60-70% of the time. Play him more!

Greg Gross is now 8-0 as Phils hitting coach.

Hate to point out a negative amidst all the positives, but after carrying the team for a week plus, Howard has cooled off over the past few games to the tune of 5 for 27 over the past 7 with only one bomb and 13ks.

Howard always has a few games in a row where he can't hit any ball in play...it'll pass.
