The Howard Update & Other Stuff

Ryan Howard has been surpassed for the MLB lead in The Howard by last year's co-winner Mark Reynolds. Reynolds is more strikeout and error prone than Howard and has every bit as much power, so this is no surprise. Reynolds has 4 while Howard and Ty Wigginton have 3 apiece (full standings on the right sidebar).

Other Stuff:

*Roy Oswalt may become a Phillie, but it won't be easy. He has a full no-trade clause and is demanding that his new team pick up his $16M option for 2012, something that Amaro currently doesn't want to do. Astros would likely get JA Happ and some prospects from the low minors.

*Speaking of the Astros, Nutsack Face Ed Wade is back to his old shenanigans of acquiring ex-Phillies, this time claiming Nelson Figueroa off waivers.

*Amaro has been a busy boy, because he's not only trying to get Oswalt, he's trying to get rid of Jayson Werth offering him to the Rays for BJ Upton or Wade Davis. Not sure either is all that great.

*Tonight- Blanton and his hefty 6.21 ERA face the Cardinals and Jamie Garcia who will likely shutout the Phillies due to his impressive 2.27 ERA.

As per my prediction.

"Oswalt's Demands Slowing Trade Talks
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 21, 2010 at 3:15pm CST]

Roy Oswalt is making the most of his no-trade clause and it's slowing the Phillies down as they attempt to acquire him. Two people familiar with the discussions tell ESPN.com's Jayson Stark that Oswalt is asking that his 2012 option be picked up by any team that trades for him. The Phillies don't mind the idea of paying Oswalt $6MM this year and $16MM next year, but they are not comfortable guaranteeing the right-hander $16MM in 2012.

J.A. Happ would likely head to Houston in an Oswalt trade, probably along with some prospects from the lower minors. For now, the Phillies are pursuing Dan Haren and Ben Sheets, but are not actively pursuing Jeremy Guthrie, Fausto Carmona or Ricky Nolasco.

The Phillies are talking to a number of teams about Jayson Werth, but are demanding a lot in return. They asked the Rays for B.J. Upton or Wade Davis, and GM Ruben Amaro Jr. is not willing to take on any of the $2.8MM remaining on Werth's deal."

Oswald wants to delay and have 2 more starts so he ties or leads the Astros in Career Wins.

By the way, as of today...
Werth has near identical stats in OBP, SLG and OPS as he ended last years incredible season. It seems like he's always slumping, but he actually right around his career highs. Plus he's on pace to nearly triple his doubles total and still hit 20+ HR. Sure hope Rube doesn't sell low on him!

Werth started the year off like an MVP, much like Ibanez last year.

Nice to see the 2nd half Howard chiming in. Too bad nobody else is helping him.

Some of the worst managing I've ever seen tonight. And of course they still can't hit. The entire organization is pathetic right now.

Take the 2.88 Million on Werth's deal, trade him for young players or prospects, and ONLY get Oswalt if he's part of your future plans. Do not trade the future for him.

Pathetic.
