Kendrick Does/Doesn't Suck & Howard Update

I wish Kyle Kendrick would make up his mind, does he or does he not suck. His 1-1 record coupled with his 5.87 ERA and 1.53 WHIP is very bleh. However, he's shown glimpses of an actual decent starting pitcher. Like last night, 7 shutout innings against a formidable Cardinals lineup. Oh yeah, there was that outing earlier in the season when he went 8 shutout innings. So in 2 of his 6 starts he's allowed no runs over 15 innings...very decent. What about the other 4 starts? Only 15.2 innings with 20 earned runs allowed...very crappy. I'm just as confused by all of this as he likely is.

The Howard:
3 members of the NL East and 1 AL East representative lead The Howard for MLB. Jason Heyward, Ian Desmond, Ryan Howard, and Ty Wigginton have 2 Howards apiece. It's very puzzling to see the East so heavily populated with Howards. In fact 16 of the 22 Howards committed this season have come from East Coast teams (73%). Damn Atlantic Ocean!

Matinee:
1:05 Business Person Special this afternoon in Philly. Why is it so special? Most business people, aka working Americans, don't even get a chance to see the game. Therefore, hours are wasted of would-be production at work sites across the greater Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware areas due to "workers" being tuned into some form of Internet to "watch" the game. Luckily for employers Roy Halladay has the ball for the Phils which should speed up the pace of the game.

yeah i think attendance at business persons specials has dipped for two reasons - not enough people have jobs any more and those that do have jobs don't want to leave facebook long enough to go see a game

how many people would have believed that Washington would be in 2nd place a month into the season.

Washington is a much improved team. They're getting unexpected production from Livan Hernandez and Pudge Rodriguez. Plus Matt Capps (who I wanted the Phils to sign!) has done a great job at the back end of the bullpen with Tyler Clippard.

Carson, anyone with a BRAIN could see the Phillies do not need any pitching help of any kind. What kind of a prospective GM are you?

*after making his joke, Dr. Steve faces the cold reality that the Phillies need major pitching help, and that no amount of joking will save him from the truth. He weeps a single tear, then leaves.*

Sad news- Robin Roberts has passed away. He was a legendary Phillie pitcher. Hope he's chilling with HK, Whitey, and Tug.

Livan Hernandez will be done in by the bear claws he eats to prepare for every game. He has an effective streak every season.

Very sad about Roberts. Sorry to hear he's gone. Are Schmidt and Carlton now our only living HOFers?

I work the midnight shift - so play ball!

There are several that are still alive: Joe Morgan, Tony Perez to name 2 (short stint with Phils - but NL Champs at that)

You guys are missing Bunning in that mix too.

5 runs for Halladay, that should be sufficient.

Jason Werth... what a beard.

84 pitches after 5. think charlie will run him out there for all nine again today?

not watching the game, but on the gamecast it looks like halladay got a little lucky today. must be a cold day in sri lanka.

Roy Halladay wasn't his best today, but he still bulldogged through 7 innings. Love that Charlie didn't pull him with 2 outs in the 7th and let him finish off Holliday.

Jayson Werth is making his next contract bigger and bigger with each extra base hit.

Ibanez its good to see him starting to hit better with a 7 game streak. Werth lost his on base streak yesterday of all 26 games or whatever it was. I gotta wonder for next year resign Werth as he is a righthander and let Ibanez play out his last year or trade as he is lefthanded like Dom Brown who is being groomed for the majors as top prospect. Even if it means eating 1 large contract for a year to keep Werth around.

RIP Robin Roberts.

Thanks for another Win Doc.

Please Phils re-sign Werth.

Phils phorever!!!!!

Nice to see Pittsburgh smoke the Cubs today and sweep. Its all happening.

Bob D, we have Ibanez's replacement waiting in the wings. He's the odd man out. It's Werth who keeps this team together.

You need to resign Werth and get to drafting top-tier Short Stop/3Bmen. And since we need BOTH, you can't go wrong!! Anyone who plays 3B should be able to play SS in the minors.

You pull that off, bam, Phillies won't miss a beat.
