Opening Day - Game Preview

Starting Pitchers:
Roy Halladay - 17-10, 2.79 in 2009. He did not face the Nationals last year.
John Lannan - 9-13, 3.88 in 2009. Lannan started four games against the Phillies in 2009 - the Phils went 4-0. He also started Opening Day 2009 against the Marlins, giving up seven runs.

Projected lineups:
Jimmy Rollins -SS Nyjer Morgan - CF
Placido Polanco - 2B Willie Harris - RF
Chase Utley - 2B Ryan Zimmerman - 3B
Ryan Howard - 1B Adam Dunn - 1B
Jayson Werth - RF Josh Willingham - LF
Raul Ibanez - LF Adam Kennedy - 2B
Shane Victorino - CF Ivan Rodriguez - C
Cooch Ruiz - C Ian Desmond - SS
First Pitch:
President Obama - He'll likely miss the catcher too far to the left. Zing!

Notes:
- Jim Riggleman continues as Gnats skipper after taking over for Manny Acta mid-season in 2009.

- Chien-Ming Wang won't start this series for Washington. He's on the 60-day DL. We'll delay all wang jokes until he returns. In other injury news, Chris Coste is on the DL also.

- This is Halladay's eighth Opening Day start.

- Raul Ibanez ended spring training hitting a very Bruntlett-esque .130.

Prediction:
The notoriously slow starting Phillies will get the Halladay Era started with a big win today - 7-2.

Extremely weak swings against Lannan through 2. Halladay doesn't seem Halladay-esque so far. Giving up hits and walks, not what we expected.

Just read the Phils are looking at adding old buddy Nelson Figueroa...really, whatever.

Howard- 2 run bomb, crushed. Well on his way to a 2nd MVP award.

4-1 Phils, Halladay knocks in a run on a dribbler.

Pedro Feliz who?

Holy crap, Mark Buerhle jus made the play of the year on opening day. Ball hit up the middle, ricochets off of his leg and rolls foul, he runs over and scoops it up with his glove and flips it to first between his legs with the glove to get the runner out. Ridiculously awesome!

Nice little debut by Herndon. That's 1 of 98 wins of the season. Great game.

SirAlden- I figured you'd be pro-Obama and pro-health care reform. I still like ya though.
