Thanksgiving is special because of the food, Christmas is cool because of the presents, cookies, and Jesus, Easter is good for Cadburry Creme Eggs, and Canadian Boxing Day is awesome because it's simply Canadian. However, they all pale in comparison to the best holiday of all...Opening Day! Today I plan on watching baseball from 1 PM to 1 AM. The Phillies versus the Nationals have first pitch set at 1:05 in Washington and there's two left coast games finishing the festivities of the day starting at 10:05 (thank you Comcast for giving me a free 1-week MLB package preview). Beer? Check. Nachos? Check. Sunflower seeds? Check. Halladay jersey? Check. Bedpan? Check. Oh yeah, I'm ready to rock.
*Chan Ho Park picked up the first L of the 2010 season, allowing 3 runs in 2/3 of an inning last night against Boston. 27.00 ERA, nice.
*Unbelievable opening day starters: Vicente Padilla- Dodgers, John Garland- Padres, Derek Lowe- Braves (they have Hudson, Hanson, and Jurrjens!), Shaun Marcum- Blue Jays (didn't even pitch last season), and Ben Sheets- Athletics (also didn't pitch last season).
*Rule 5'er Carlos Monasterios, he of the Bobby Abreu trade, made the Dodgers 25-man roster.
*The Phillies haven't won on Opening Day since 2005 against the Nationals. Winning pitcher- Jon "Donut-Eater" Lieber.
*I participated in another season preview over at Phoul Ballz.
