The Howard Update

As many of you know by now Ryan Howard made history last night being credited with his first ever Howard. The Howard is a lighthearted stat and is fun to root for, especially when the Phillies can still win or an error/strikeout leads to an opposing player's team losing. Howard only briefly held the MLB lead in The Howard, as Ian Desmond (in the same game) and Dan Uggla each notched their first of the season last night too. *Standings can be seen near the top of the right sidebar.

Notes:
*2 games, 2 hits and 2 rbi from Phils pitchers.

*Kyle Kendrick, who went from bullpen by default to 3rd starter, gets the ball this afternoon (4:35) in hopes of wrapping up a series sweep to start the season. He will be opposed by Craig Stammen (not to be confused with a flower's reproductive part).

*Cole Hamels wasn't bad, but he wasn't good. A win to start the year I'll take though.

I was watching the Yankess/Sox games last night as I refuse to pay Comcast and do the DirectTv thing. Following the game I saw an odd stat that one of Howards two bombs thus far was recorded according to estimates as the second highest travelling home run in I think in like 10 years. That thing he hit last night was while I was at my folks house right after my dad said.. "look Howard struck out again" (looking at his line) I encouraged my dad to continue with the same enthusiasm.

Howards shot last night was ridiculous. There aren't many balls smashed harder than the one hit hit last night...unless you're in the Red Light District and into S&M.

It was a no-doubt-about-it shot! Fun game. Hamels hopefully was just shaking off some rust and will be more dominant next time out. From where I was sitting, I was actually surprised Howard got the error. It just looked like a tough play to me. Oh well, its more exciting to see Howard get the 1st Howard of the season though.

"Tremendous home run....Ry-an How-ard!" RIP, HK.

Wow. Wow. As Conlin will inevitably write, that was Dick Allen-esque.

It was good to see that Hamels kept his composure amidst adversity and a few bad bounces last night. Hope for the future. I'm not terribly worried about his control as it seems a small strike zone plagued both pitchers last night.

What idiot ever wanted Kyle Kendrick in the rotation? Oh yeah, me. What a horrible start to the game.

Why the hell is Figueroa in a 5-5 game early in the season? This is what our bullpen has become?

GM-Carson said...

Can we release Raul Ibanez now? He looked horrible all spring and even worse now that the season has started.

That what a very winnable game, but no situational hitting, especially from Ibanez.

Kendrick sucks. Figueroa was in the game because Manuel can't manage a bullpen. And because Kendrick sucks.

Figueroa was brought in to be the long man - people say he can even start. But he sucks at that. BASTARDO AND HERNDON PITCH A SCORELESS 9TH!!! FUTURE OF OUR BULLPEN!!

I'm loving watching Ricky-Bo on Comcast Post Game, he's fired up about the Phils pissing a game away. He's a true Phillie!

All second half of last year, all spring, and 3 games into this year and Ibanez looks horrible. Meanwhile Ben Francisco rots on the bench.

Hey, I never got on this Ibanez bandwagon. The sooner Brown is brought up the better. As long as he spends most of the year in AAA.

I just want to let you know that the howard is hilarious and that I wish I thought of it.

Also... Ibanez was 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts and his average now stands at anemic .091. You would expect your left-handed 6-hitter to be able to manage a fucking fly ball off a shitty right-handed reliever. Guess not. I know, I know, “It’s one series, you should calm down, they can’t all be hot at the same time.” Look, I hear all that, but did you see those at-bats today? How about in the seventh inning when he completely wiffed on an 82-mph changeup that was up in the zone and middle-in? Awful.

Also, we are doing something called the Phillies 600...please check it out.
