I see we traded Mike Young to get him - can someone (Jon?) fill me in on Mike Young? I seem to recall he arrived in Philly with great promise but never amounted to anything. We lost one of the best 'staches of all time in that trade, Rick Schu.
Seriously, how the hell did you get Alex Madrid? I don't even remember him, I just stumbled upon him when looking through some old Phillies teams. Impressive.
MTMG - Sorry, I have no memory of Mike Young. I surfed over to Baseball reference and saw that Philly appears to have been his second-to-last chance to make something of himself, though he bounced around to Milwaukee and Cleveland before calling it quits. My guess is that he was part of the whole Ron Jones-Phil Bradley-Glenn Wilson-Ron Roenicke outfield fiasco.
Thanks Jon, baseballlibrary dotcom had a nice paragraph too but still not helping my already hazy recollection. I remember the first time I heard of Texas's Michael Young I did a doubletake...
BTW I'm thinking of loading every photo, baseball card, google image etc. into iphoto's face recognition software in preparation for the next question. Corey, can you hold off Name that Player #6, say for about 12-14 weeks? ;-)
honestly the only reason I knew that was because over the weekend I was going through my baseball card collection with my nephew and I remember seeing his card saying who the heck is Alex Madrid.
I have thousands of baseball cards, and I love leafing through them recalling crappy players that were only around for a few games here and there. Good times.

GM - A blog-follower (even one beaten out by two minutes. Seriously!) never reveals his secrets.
Rumors-
Ed Wade (Astros GM) is looking at Brett Myers.
Phils may be interested in John Smoltz.

Isn't that the 1989 Donruss card on the site today? '88 was mostly a blue border. I know the '89 border because the famed Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card.
I guessed '88, but I'm not sure why. There was more green for '89, no?

Gotta love this time of year, Phils also linked to JJ Putz, Rafael Betancourt, and Randy Wolf. Rumors abound...
Pat "The Bat" Burrell rumored to be traded to the NL Cubs for Milton Bradley.
Polanco rumored to be nearly signed by Phils. Im cool with that
