No More Bruntlett Part 2

Just last week Corey begged Ruben Amaro Jr. to nontender Eric Bruntlett a contract. A petition was put into action by the fine readership of WSBGMs. Today our wish was granted, as Bruntlett was removed from the 40-man roster, thus becoming a free agent.

*In other less exciting news, JA Happ finished 2nd in the NL Rookie of the Year balloting.

Close one for Happ. He deserved the award, but so did Coghlan. Can't wait to see what he can do next year.

Yesterday Eric Bruntlett was dropped from the 40 Man Roster - the Phillies also removed Tyler Walker, John Ennis, Andy Tracy and Paul Hoover. They all become free agents.

This brought the 40 Man Roster to 35. It still includes, Brett Myers, Scott Eyre, Chan Ho Park, Paul Bako, Pedro Feliz, Miguel Cairo, and Matt Stairs. It also includes Clay Condrey, Chad Durbin, Pedro Martinez.

Brett Myers has been told he will not be back - 34.

Eyre, Park, Bako, Feliz, Cairo, and Stairs (have missed his Free Agency Filing) all filed for Free Agency. They most likely will be back or replaced with a position replacing Free Agents. - 34

Clay Condrey, Chad Durbin, Pedro Martinez could be resigned, replaced by a Free Agent, or not offered a contract freeing 1 to 3 40 man Roster Slots.

So the Phillies have 6 (34), or 7 (33). Places to fill on the 40 man, it could be 8 (32), or 9 (31), Less likely.

Now, how many Phillies are at realistically at risk of being lost during the upcoming Rule 5 Draft due to time served with the organization, whose performance, and or potential?

Who is at risk, and how would we rate them? Might be a great Hotstove topic, people rating 1 to 9, Daily once we have the list.

4 days to Jay Johnstone Phlashback Phriday.

The Phillies will trade for Brandon Phillips of the Reds and move him to 3B. You heard it here first.

I'll try to contain my excitement SirAlden.

Brandon Phillips has plenty of "mustard", as Wheels would say, because he's a hot dog on the field.

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com believes the Phillies will find a replacement for Eric Bruntlett among John McDonald, Omar Vizquel, Jamey Carroll, Ronnie Belliard and Juan Uribe.

I've like Carroll for quite some time now, he's a decent bench bat and very versatile. Uribe and Belliard would be major upgrades over Brunt too.

Omar Vizquel can still field 3B, SS, and 2B with a +150 Range.

Can't hit American League Pitching anymore. We need a Utility Player who can Play SS well.

He is a great clubhouse guy, and
can mentor too.

All Phillies core players are about 30 years old...who exactly would he be mentoring?

Freddy Galvis of course.

And every infielder on the team.
