I probably watched about 120 Phillies games this year. I missed a few due to work or vacation or hangovers but even some of those that I didn’t watch I followed on radio or the internet. And I know that there are some of you out there who got pretty close to seeing all 162. Congratulations on that.
We got to see some pretty great things this year. The early season breakout of Raul Ibanez was impressive. Ryan Howard hit a few balls 600 or 700 feet. Just watching Chase Utley everyday is fun.
We also saw some pretty ugly things. J-Rolls first half was frightening. Brad Lidge was…beyond adjectives. And Eric Bruntlett was here all year.
Either way, with the ups and the downs, it was a very successful season. The “losingest” franchise in sports just won their third division championship in as many years and we were all there, supporting the team the entire way. From April to October, we were there.
And what is our reward for our loyalty and dedication? A freaking playoff opener at 2:37 in the damn afternoon!
Hey, MLB, you stupid money-grubbing TV-fellating whores, Wednesday is a workday and the last time I checked 90.2% of the adult population in this country works. We can’t ditch our responsibilities to run home and watch TBS in the middle of the afternoon. What a load of crap. I hate you, MLB.
Okay, maybe that is a little harsh toward our beloved MLB. I can understand that they want every game to be televised without competition from other games so TBS and FOX can both be happy and keep shelling out the money. I like capitalism. I understand. And it’s only the first game. I’ll get at least two more games watched because Game Two starts at…oh you have to be kidding me! 2:37 AGAIN!!!
By the time I see a game the series may be over! Thank you MLB for crushing my soul.
