Where are they now?

So Taguchi, Adam Eaton, Geoff Jenkins, Rudy Seanez, Pat Burrell, Tom Gordon, and Chris Coste like it or not, one way or another, helped form the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies. Some of those players were left off the postseason roster, but regardless, put their stamp good or bad on the team that made it to playing October baseball. Where are they now?

So Taguchi- he was the low man on the totem pole last year, but he had his moments. Currently he's with the Chicago Cubs Triple-A affiliate batting .271/.744, while playing sporadically in the outfield.

Adam Eaton- released from the Phillies back in late February, he quickly found a home in Baltimore. The Orioles soon found out why Philadelphia wanted his ass outta here, as he went 2-5, over 41 innings pitched, with a 8.56 ERA in 8 starts. One might guess he'd be out of baseball after those atrocious numbers, but no, the Rockies picked him up and put him in the minors. With Colorado's Triple-A team he's been very good with a 3-3 record in 12 games, 67.1 ip, and a 2.67 ERA. Maybe they'll call him up in September and he'll help wreck their Wild Card dreams. I'm still loving the fact that he was booed upon receiving his unwarranted WFC ring.

Geoff Jenkins- got some minor league offers after being cut loose from the Phils, but decided that wasn't the route he wanted to take. Is taking it easy back at his Arizona home. Hat-tip to Todd Zolecki of The Zo Zone on this.

Rudy Seanez- pitched in 9 games for the Angels Triple-A team before being released a couple weeks ago. Maybe he should come back to Philly now that Ultimate Fighting is here.

Pat Burrell- signed to a 2 year $16M deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, everyone thought he was going to be a perfect fit for them and that we'd miss him immensely. Well, we do miss him, but certainly not for his baseball playing ability, as we've got Raul now. Apparently the boo-birds have followed him to sunny Florida as he continues to struggle through this season with a .227/.713, 9 hr, 42 rbi, 76 k in 78 games.

Tom Gordon- had a disastrous 3 game stint with the Diamondbacks earlier this season (21.60 ERA), and I believe he is attempting to rehab in the minors right now (10.97 ERA). It's past time to hang up those spikes Flash.

Chris Coste- I'm still confused as to why Paul Bako is the backup catcher as opposed to Coste, but I'm only a pretend GM. Coste was scooped off waivers by the Astros about a month ago. He has been playing a lot of 1st base since joining them, due to Lance Berkman's injury. Ed Wade really only took Coste to block the Cubs from getting him...you savvy bastard! However, it's gone downhill in Houston- .231/.606 is 17 games.

Maybe Eric Bruntlett can be the next one added to this list.

*All stats listed through 8/9/09.

What I hope for- Pedro seals his fate and pitches well enough to keep the 5th spot in the rotation, going 5-6 innings with a 4ish ERA. Moyer remains in the pen. Phils win World Series and Moyer retires. Opening a spot in the rotation next season and some money.

Why not have Pedro go 6-7+ innings with a 2ish ERA or is that wishful thinking.

We all wish that Bruntlet would join that group of where are they now and his 130ish batting average. At least Dobbs and Rollins were able to climb out of that horrible start this year to put up a decent BA now.

I can't believe that any team picked up Rudy Seanez and Tom Gordon after the Phillies. Seanez sucked on Los Angeles and Gordon hasn't been good since he was on Boston. (Face it, Flash was never a lock as a Phillies closer.)

I wonder what ever became of Jose Mesa?

GM-Carson said...

Mesa is busy fathering is drove of children.

Adam Eaton may be doing well in Triple-A, but just wait til he is in that 'great pitcher's park' (in his words) known as Coors. You may well get your wish of Eaton destroying Colorado's wildcard ambitions.

Adam Eaton is doing well no matter where he is. He's getting paid $9 million. unconditionally. from us. period.

GM-Carson said...

Wow, $9M to suck at your job for one year. I won't touch that in my lifetime...damn.

Andrew said...

way to put it in perspective Carson. Now to go kill myself...

Joshua Lattanzi said...

Where do I go to get 9 million to suck at my job?

GM-Carson said...

Only in pro sports or the movies.

Joshua Lattanzi said...

Yeah, in education, I don't get that option. Damn.

Andrew said...

and it wasn't even sucking for a year. It was more like sucking for 3 months. damn.

From The Zo Zone-
"I'm really not happy with this decision that the Phillies have made," he said, sitting in the stands behind the first-base dugout. "I will take what they've asked me to do, but I'm not really excited about the decision that has been made. Ultimately, I'm a little dishearted because this past winter when I was negotiating with the Phillies this was a sore thumb, if you will, about this potentially happening.

"You can't promise anything in this game, but I really felt that Ruben (Amaro Jr.) parlayed to me that this type of situation would not happen. Actually, even had some discussion with David (Montgomery) with them reassuring me that this type of situation wouldn't happen. Again, I'm a little disheartend by the way it's happened, how it's happened. We're still in first place. I probably feel like I haven't contributed as well as I could have, but I think if you go around to the other 24 players on our club they would probably say the same type of thing.

"Whether I like it or not, this is the situation I'm in. I will deal with it. I will deal with it in a respectful way. I'll be respectful to my teammates. Like I said at the beginning, I do not want to be a distraction and I refuse to be a distraction. It's about the 25 players that are here. We all have to pick each other up. We all have to support each other. We all have to be professional about what we do. This is job that sometimes you're in situations that you like or dislike and you have to deal with it. That's why for me dealing with this like a man and taking whatever they choose to do. I'm an employee here, but I don't always have to like the situation that I'm in. And that's OK. Life goes on. But like I said, I feel a little disheartened. I feel a little bit like I've been misled. I feel like I've played this game long enough that the respect factor should be there."

*Well Jamie, if you didn't want this to happen then you should have stopped sucking!

Carson you sure have gotten some mileage out of that picture of Patty B!

Phillies no base runners through 5 innings...awesome.

The Phillies are a bunch of Vagina's again.

Their GM gets them Cliff Freakin Lee at the deadline and they respond completely sucking.

When's the last time utley, howard or ibanez hit a homerun?????

GM-Carson said...

Tom Gordon was released by the D'Backs today.

Howard sucks right now. Seriously, he's so overrated. His OPS continues to go down each season.

Ibanez has fallen back to earth.

Aaron said...

i really don't like moyers...respect factor comment

you have been one of the worst starters in baseball all year. you were shown respect when they let you suck all the way though the first week of August before making a change.
Surely you have played this game long enough to understand that there are better options to start right now that you!

Fuck Brad Lidge!

Jeremy said...

We all know Lidge blows donkey dick. Why doesn't Fuqua let Madsen close it out, let Eyre pitch the 8th. I don't want to hear he is specialist either. He gets paid more than I can fathom, get your ass in there and throw the fucking ball.

GM-Carson said...

The sight of Brad Lidge pisses me off.

The Phils have some historically awful players this season- Bruntlett and Lidge.

Bob D said...

Moyer for closer! He could end up pitching in this yet. possibly for the save even.

GM-Carson said...

Charlie said the old fart wouldn't be available until Friday.

Aaron said...

Where the F did our offense go????????????!!!!!

And we can't win another world series with LIdge as our closer. He's not a good pitcher. Seriously he's not in a slump he's just not a good pitcher.

GM-Carson said...

Lidge went from one of the best season as a closer to one of the worst. The only reason he's still closing games in that gigantic contract he signed last season.

GM-Carson said...

2 hits, 2 god damn hits?

GM-Carson said...

Ben Francisco is awesome. Rube did a tremendous job picking him up along with Lee.

Aaron said...

The Phils pulled one out of their ass tonight.

GM-Carson said...

That game sucked aside from the win, but hey, it's a win.
