A Post Not About Brad Lidge Sucking

This post is not about how much Brad Lidge sucks. Why would I want to post about how our $11.5M closer just blew his 8th save of the year and notched his 5th loss? I don't want to write about how the Phillies are on the hook for a minimum of $24.5M over the next two seasons. I don't feel like pointing out that he's having one of the worst seasons ever by a closer that remained in that crucial role. It's not like I have a reason to bitch, the man has a 7.27 ERA, 1.85 WHIP, has allowed 10 homeruns, and opponents have scored upon him in 21 of his 48 appearances (44%). How could I find fault in Charlie Manuel's refusal to remove Lidge from the closer's role or his ringing endorsement of the situation, "He's our closer. We have confidence in him."? Why would I possibly be worried about playoff aspirations or the implications of having a defective closer upon reaching the postseason?

Disgust:
*Jimmy Rollins has seen only 15 pitches in the past 2 games in 7 official at bats (did have a sacrifice bunt on Friday). I've counted at least 3 times that's he made an out on the first pitch of the game this week too. That's pathetic.

*Our bench is atrocious. Matt Stairs has 1 hit in the past 2 months (1-26 Jul/Aug). Eric Bruntlett is having one of the worst seasons OPS-wise (.398) for a non-pitcher this decade. Paul Bako is batting .175/.493, so glad we rid our organization of Chris Coste, Ronny Paulino, and Jason Jaramillo. Greg Dobbs is 7-45 (.156) as a pinch hitter this season.

Bright Side:
Despite the seemingly endless amount of concerns currently with the team, the Phils remain in 1st place with a 4 game cushion.

If Pedro can throw the heat, and only lasts 5 innings, why don't we use him in the bullpen? Madson can be our closer, Pedro can be our setupman...

think Myers can get it together fast enough to be our postseason closer?

I like how we're all optimistic for Myers. Including me. When we hated him as closer.

Rick Schu sucks

Can we please not try the Ryan Madson Experiment again? That was as dreadful as watching Lidge collapse yesterday was. Sure, Myers would be a fine closer option, but not until he's actually healthy. If we take Lidge out now, who holds us over until Myers comes back? Do we trade Lidge for Smoltz? For Wagner? Do we bring back the ghost of Jose Mesa?
Also, Eric Bruntlett sucks.

if you look at it optimistically, Lidge is only averaging 4 blown saves per year as a Phillie! Including postseason!

meh, he sucks this year. bench him!

Even when Myers comes back, it's unlikely he'll be able to go back-to-back days. And assuming his stuff will be back-end-of-the-bullpen worthy is assuming a lot. I'd like to think that he can do it, but him actually doing it is an entirely different case.

Click here for one of the best articles I've read in a long time. It's worth the 5 minutes, trust me.

Awesome, so now there was an "altercation" at the bar Brett Myers was at that Brett's Friend was involved in but "not Brett"
And the number of beers he had has increased from 2 to 2 or 3. If you can't remember how many beers you had it's probably more than 3.

So the night before his first rehab start, he goes out pounds a shit load of beer. And we are supposed to believe that his friend was in a fight that he didn't participate in that he coincidentally got a black eye that night falling into his car door. And that even though he lied about his son hitting him with a ball, his second story in the truth. Honestly has anyone ever heard of someone getting a black eye by falling into their car door?????? How does that even happen??

I don't even want to see him pitch this year. Just go away Brett.

Brett Myers seems to be a real douchebag. I won't miss him when he's gone, but while he's a Phillie will continue rooting for him.

2 or 3 beers sounds like a b.s. line you feed to an officer.

Happ is the MAN!

I'm surprised that Lidge was able to get one out before giving up 3 runs.

That's not good.

I didn't see the game, fell asleep. But Howard with 2 bombs and Happ with a great game and Lidge with a save...wow.
