I didn't even remember David Palmer, had to look him up. Funny that Moyer was the losing pitcher. Chris James was one of the those hyped prospects that never really panned out.

In 40 games, high draft pick of 2008 Anthony Hewitt has 19 errors. He's not hitting for shit either, and this is in low-A ball.

Can we trade for Bedrosian? We could use him right now.

Bedrock deserves a Phlashback Phriday of his own.

Pitching Matchups:
Tonight- Nolasco vs. Blanton, each pitcher has been on a roll lately.
Saturday- West vs. Hamels, young lefties that have been good/bad.
Sunday- Johnson vs. Moyer, Johnson is awesome, Moyer is not (except when he is against the Marlins, who we're playing).

I always seemed to be going to Cubs-Phillies games during the 'dog days' of the late 80's. I guess my father liked watching the Cubs, but I know I didn't go to this particular game. Why? Because the Phillies actually won the damn game.

Didn't David Palmer get credit for a rain-shortened perfect game one time?

GM-Carson said...

I went and checked him out on Wikipedia, and sure enough, David Palmer threw a rain-shortened perfect game in the 2nd game of a doubleheader in 1984 as a member of the Montreal Expos.

That must have been before the rule changes over credit for no-hitters and perfect games. Can't recall the date of said rule change.

Remember Gavin Floyd's 5 inning shutout over the Mets? Of course you do, it was Fence-Face Rowand's "the catch" game.

Chris James sucks.

Joshua Lattanzi said...

Yeah, Chris James sucked, but for the three weeks or so between Mike Schmidt's retirement and James being dumped off to San Diego, he was my favorite player. What did I know, though, I was 7 years old and my mom forbade me from liking Von Hayes.

Your mother was/is a smart woman, obviously.

Bob Dernier I remember him best by getting hit in the head with a liner while trying to steal. Because the ball was in play he was out as well as being knocked out briefly.

Phil Bradley and Lance Parrish were two big name additions that only played average for the Phillies.

Chris James and Ricky Jordan (one of my favorites along with Ron Jones) who were all hyped up as being the next all star players who did very little.

Why did she forbid you, and why was it wise?

Olde 5 for 1.

Low A ball for Hewitt? He can't even reach low A ball. He's in short season rookie ball. Meanwhile, 2 guys that were drafted THIS YEAR are already at Lakewood, ahead of Hewitt!

Dr. Steve said...

Is Hewitt a rare miss? Is he going to come around? Was he traded under Arbuckle?

I want to believe that our farm system is replenishable, and I know that you need more than first rounders to fill it, but the first rounder should still be good.

My mother is the ultimate Von Hayes hater. Even if I mention him now she gives me the look. She is/was a big Mike Schmidt fan and took personal offense when Hayes wanted superstar money. She has always had a special animus for certain trades made in Philly history - 5 for 1 being at the top, and trading Moses Malone for Jeff Ruland is number two.

Games over in the 2nd inning. No outs 1st and 3rd nobody scores. Shitty base running by howard.
Marlins will win tonight ....see you tommorow.

Lame 9th Phils. Lame.

I thought Ryan Howard was supposed to heat up as the season went on. He's not doing so hot lately. Very disappointing game tonight.

I'd like August to be his month too.
