Freakin' Fish!

Ugh, the Marlins! They certainly are some pesky bastards. Now that they have "The Nephew" (aka Nick Johnson, Larry Bowa's nephew), their offense is a bit more complete and their pitching remains top-notch. Blanton pitched a decent game, but the Phils offense remained in a funk. From The Zo Zone- Ryan Howard "is hitting .175 (7-for-40) with two doubles, two RBIs, one walk and 18 strikeouts in his last 10 games. He struck out with runners on first and second with one out in the eighth inning against Marlins left-hander Reynel Pinto - the runner on second represented the tying run - to drop his average with runners in scoring position to .160 (4-for-25) with no home runs, six RBIs, two walks and 15 strikeouts since July 11." Ryno is not alone in his slumping ways, "Chase Utley is hitting .150 (3-for-20) with one double, one RBI, one walk and five strikeouts in his last six games. He is hitting .000 (0-for-10) with one RBI since July 23 with runners in scoring position. He is hitting just .214 (6-for-28) with one homer and seven RBIs with runners in scoring position since July 7. Utley and Howard have hit .136 (6-for-44) with two RBIs in the previous six games, in which the Phillies are 2-4."

Tonight:
Cole Hamels needs to be the ace tonight and assure that the Phils take at least 1 game from the Marlins this weekend. With Jamie Moyer on the mound tomorrow, who really knows what to expect. Moyer has dominated the Marlins in the past, and following his good game/bad game routine it would be the good game's turn, but I'd much rather see the Phils light up Sean West and Hamels go 7+ strong tonight and secure the "W".

Stuff:
*Here's the beautiful print fans received at the gate last night honoring Harry Kalas' induction on the Phillies Wall of Fame.

*The drunken, switch-hitting, Nicaraguan, ex-Phillie Vicente Padilla was released from the Texas Rangers.

*Pedro Martinez was told he's pitching Tuesday, just not where yet.

*For a laugh- 0 ip, 2 h, 3 bb, 1 hr, 5 r (K-Rod's line from the Mets' defeat last night). His 3rd loss and 5th blown save this season.

be careful pointing out the shortcoming of mr. howard. once you win an mvp and a world series you are bullet proof (unless you are jimmy rollins). you can't say that he swings and misses too much. you can't say that hitting below .260 isn't that good. you can't say that he can't hit a lefty better than eric bruntlett. and whatever you do, don't make the observation that adam dunn can only get $8 million in free agency and every team that has him wants to get rid of him because he strikes out too much, even though he hits as many homers as howard, strikes out less and has a higher OPS. that will really piss people off.

Corey- yes, we better be careful.

By the way, there are now 3 Cabrera's on The Howard list (Orlando, Miguel, and Everth). Check bottom right sidebar for full listings.

I think you need to take the "Howard" down or rename it to who ever has the most at the moment.

Moyer at Home.

"Danger! Will Robinson! Danger!!!"

that would be like renaming the cy young every year.

"hey look, tim lincecum won another lincecum. of course, roger clemens has a few clemens awards himself."

no. that won't work.

fuckin Hamels!!!

When it's August you can't keep saying he's just struggling with his location anymore.
You just say he sucks. Period.
You suck Hamels!
Cut that gay hair off and stop sucking.

Hamels had a bad year. He'd have to come through in a huge way over his last starts of the seasons to view it any other way. He is pitching okay tonight though. Phils offense is stranding a ton of runners unfortunately.

Latest from Ken Rosenthal- Forget about all that talk from Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. about going with a six-man rotation, Jamie Moyer will "almost certainly" head to the bullpen once Pedro Martinez is ready. The team just hasn't figured out how to break the news yet.

He's not pitching ok anymore. Another bomb off a high change up.

You suck Hamels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cole Hamels pisses me off. He's supposed to be awesome, but he's far from that this season.
