Messed Up Canada

Team Canada may have roughed up Team USA in the WBC tournament 3 years ago, making a laughingstock out of them in the process, but the Phillies messed them up yesterday. Final score of 9-2 as the Red, White, & Blue waved on with pride. Justin Morneau, Jason Bay, Matt Stairs, Joey Votto, and what sounds like a sexually transmitted disease Stubby Clapp were no match for Cole Hamels, John Mayberry, Ryan Howard, Raul Ibanez, and company. The Phils continue to do America proud.

Meanwhile Team USA faltered against the Blue Jays, losing 6-5. J-Roll and Vic were in the lineup and went 2-10 collectively. Newly acquired Mets setup man JJ Putz got clipped with the loss giving up 3 runs in the 9th inning...only hope we can expect more of that come regular season.

Real WBC action for Team USA and Canada starts this Saturday March 7th as they square off against each other at 2pm on ESPN.

Linking Logs:
*Todd Zolecki sums up the Phils health concerns. Funny no mention of Charlie Manuel's pending labor.

*The Fightins roast the Phanatic, parental advisory- explicit text.

*Long Drive: Phillies Blog shares with readers how Corey and I are somewhat responsible for his blogging habit.

*BeerLeaguer takes a look at dipping homerun totals across the majors, but notes that the Phils have held steady in their pursuit of power.

*More Hardball inducts an all-time true gentlemen of the game in the form of Dale Murphy into their Hardball Heroes hall of fame.

* has a nice article on the Phillies Top 10 prospects. My favorite Michael Taylor is listed after hitting .346 with 19 homers, 88 RBIs and 15 steals between Lakewood and Clearwater in 2008.

*Phillies Nation was lucky enough to score an interview with ace Cole Hamels. Yes, I'm jealous.

Mayberry may just play himself onto a roster spot. Slayden is another who is opening some eyes also. Keep an eye on him in a year or two as he could be on the fast track to the majors.

Stubby Clapp??? is it contagious? I hope the viewers don't come down with it.

I've been a Slayden fan for about 3 seasons now. He's kind of slow, not very good defensively, but the dude has always been able to hit at every level. He's not young either, I think he's 26 or 27 now. I do think he'll be a quality 4th outfielder in the near future, and far cheaper than Geoff Jenkins.

Mayberry is still a bit raw, but he has a very athletic body which is conducive to power and speed. Great trade of him for Golson.

Btw back in harrisburg for the week it's funny how much you miss comcast after a month of crappy charleston tv

Kendrick sucked today, not much of a surprise. He was good the first 2 innings but then shit the bed, with some help from singles by Vic and J-Roll. Then shitface Chipper Jones hit a 3 run homer. I don't see how Happ doesn't get the 5th spot. I know it is early, but I just think he is definitely going to take it.

Mr. Loom- my comment was far from the level of Mr. A-Hole. I welcome commenters on this blog, but I could do without his sometimes.

KK did get roughed up against Team USA, but not as bad as Bastardo- 2.1 ip, 5 r, 3 hr...ouch!

By the way Howard collected the first Howard of the spring- hitting a homerun, committing an error (2 of them), and striking out all in the same game.

According to's Jon Heyman, the Phillies signed pitcher Rodrigo Lopez to a minor league deal.

ehh, the guys no good anymore. hopefully its just a AAA stocking low risk deal.

"By the way Howard collected the first Howard of the spring- hitting a homerun, committing an error (2 of them), and striking out all in the same game."

I can't read about that stat without laughing out loud for a couple of minutes. Has to be the best stat ever compiled. I can't wait to see what other Phillies pull a Howard throughout the season.

There should be a stat called the Ruiz. Given to any player who grounds into more then one double play per game and manages not to get a single hit.

Screw you guys for not appreciating a truly great asshole when you meet one.

Rodrigo Lopez is the dude the Phils would have got in exchange for Burrell in '06. Thank God The Bat said screw that.

From Zolecki:

After Shane Victorino hit a chopper over Ryan Howard's head for a one-out single, Kendrick threw to first on a pickoff attempt. The throw was low, the ball got away from Howard and Victorino scampered to second. Kendrick threw up his arms for a split second. Jimmy Rollins then hit a ball through the hole between first and second to put runners at the corners. Dustin Pedroia followed suit, knocking the ball through the hole between first and second. Kendrick threw up his arms again, which irritated Dubee.

"That's unacceptable behavior," Dubee said.

Kendrick acts his age...not good.
