Last night FedEx delivered me one of the best packages I've ever received- 2 Opening Night tickets to the Phillies vs. Braves on April 5th. It appears Chase Utley will be in the lineup with the rest of the regulars, so I should be a happy boy. But then there's this news about Cole Hamels from the mouth of Rich Dubee- "Opening Day is probably a long shot, just because we've got to get him up and running. We've got to stretch him out. I think he's been up to 52 or 54 pitches. We like our guys, if they're going to pitch, hopefully they'll be ready to throw 100 pitches by Opening Day. It could be a long shot. Again, this guy has always risen to the occasion. It's good that we caught it when we did. It wasn't getting cleared up. It wasn't getting any worse, but it wasn't getting any better."
This of course means Brett Myers is the fallback plan to open the season, just as he was last year (for a different reason). I'm just hoping Good Brett shows up. He is primed for a huge season, as it's a contract year, he's lost significant weight this offseason, and is focused solely on being a starting pitcher. In yesterday's Grapefruit action he went 5.2 innings, while only allowing 4 hits, no runs, and striking out 7. That's a pretty good safety net.
The Fightins and Birland have teamed up to create some fantastic t-shirts. Corey and I are anxiously awaiting our Band of Champions- 2008 Version to come in the mail. Being the huge punk fans that we are, this Ramones inspired design really appeals to us.
