War of Words

Whether it's Ryan Church, David Wright, Carlos Beltran, Francisco Rodriguez, Billy Wagner, or Brian Schneider talking shit about the Phillies and the NL East, it never seems to have bearing on what actually happens during the season. Now, when Jimmy Rollins starts popping off at the mouth, then things happen; like winning the NL East in '07 and '08. Those ass-hat Mets think they're the "team to beat" in '09, but my guess is that they're only saying that to build false confidence. You know, when you keeping saying the same thing over and over again to make it seem like it's true even though it couldn't be more fake (paging SNL's Stuart Smalley).

Cole Hamels calls Mets "choke artists":

Brett Myers is tired of it:

More from Myers on Mets- "I'm so tired of talking about them. I'm just tired of it. They can think what the hell they want, but we've got the hardware right now. It's their job to take it from us. It's our job to keep it."

Removing the microphone means discussion over (just like winning the division back to back).

Sometimes I really like Brett Myers (like in that video) and other times I really dislike him (the whole "retard" comment, and pitching like crap for half the season in '08).

From MLBTR-
According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates have agreed to a three-year contract with Nate McLouth, avoiding arbitration. There is a team option for 2012. No other details are available at this time.

McLouth was eligible for arbitration for the first time this offseason. This deal buys out all three arbitration years and gives the Pirates control of McLouth's first season of free agency.

*Good for the Pirates, as he's one of their few positives on the team.

From MLBTR (man I love that site!)-
Todd Zolecki of MLB.com says things are quiet on the free agent front for the Phillies. GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said the team's not in on lefty relievers Will Ohman or Joe Beimel, and indicated that signing one of them is a long shot.

Zolecki also finds a Nomar Garciaparra signing unlikely. Nomar still hasn't decided whether to play in '09.

How do you spell retard? said...

@GM Carson

I appreciate all of Brett Myers, for I have made a name for myself in the blogging community off his white trash coattails.

I applaud you for that Retard.

From Todd Zolecki-
The Phillies completed their first full squad workout today. Charlie Manuel said Chase Utley has moved past Pedro Feliz in terms of being ready for Opening Day. Utley is taking fielding practice and taking swings off the practice tee. Feliz is doing neither, but could be throwing in a few days.

The uncertainty surrounding Utley and Feliz means camp should be especially interesting for Eric Bruntlett, Jason Donald, Marcus Giles and Miguel Cairo. Only Bruntlett is guaranteed a spot on the team, but the other three could be needed to fill the void if Utley and/or Feliz aren't ready to start the season.

*Utley is a beast, Feliz is not.
